I don't consider it "stupid". I have been around private poker games for a very long time and it is COMMON to give small loans in situations like this. It wasn't even being nice. It is just what happens. However, the way Im handling it right now isn't how others would in this poker community. He would have already been MADE to pay. However, I am trying to be nice and just want some communication.

I posted this for two reasons, 1) to get opinions on whether this constitutes an alert and 2) to shame him into coming through with his word.

Boom, "fucked up shit" would have to be defined. Depending upon what they did...that would determine whether or not it should be posted.

If a person is that unscrupulous and another board member could fall victim to them...then, I say post the alert. That is just IMO.

Umm...since we're giving him the benefit of the doubt, have you considered any of these, Jez?

Have you considered the possibility that;

- maybe he's at The Center for Disease Control and he's got one of those Super-Sicknesses...and maybe they have him quarantined and in an isolation bubble and they will allow him to log on to Eccie, but they won't allow him to send any sort of outgoing messages for fear that he'll spread his highly contagious illness via the Interwebs?

- or maybe that isolation bubble won't let anything get out...like a force-field?

- or maybe he went into The Witness Protection Program and they relocated him immediately after he turned state's evidence?

- or maybe Aliens abducted him and are conducting experiments on him with their alien anal probes?

- or maybe he joined the Peace Corps?

...or maybe he broke the #`1 rule in gaming, he was playing on grocery money instead of mad money (which is I'm sure what happened) only to compound the problem when he was hoping that marker you gave him was all that he needed to get him flush again.

Well, regardless what happened to him, hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery and bee-line it over to your place and square his debt and we'll have a happy ending.

Unfortunately it is two separate worlds. Jez is correct and most private cash games will give you a marker or "put you in their books," but usually it's with a regular that you know is good for it! Even with that being the case, a lot of time the house gets burned either due to somebody slow paying them or not paying at all. The only thing you can really do is chalk it up as a loss, and hope to get paid. Another option is to run no books at all. It might not sit well with the other players, but it protects you. The house shells out a lot of money up front, and with cases like this ends up losing money. The house should never lose money as long as they stay off the table.

Before moving here a couple months ago i lived in Vegas for many years and was surrounded by gamblers. I too enjoy gambling but one thing i learned is, and i'm stereotyping, but you can't trust the average gambler. Here is how i see the situation. He goes busto so he borrows $300 from you on the spot and thinks "i'm going to turn this 300 into a dime ($1000) and i'll pay back before i even leave with so-called borrowed money" He never had the money nor did he plan on losing. Bad gamblers think its the next one the next one, etc. I've been burned before too by a friends brother. Guy hit me up after a big score for a few hundred. Said i get paid Friday. That was 2 years ago and i'm still waiting on it. You may never see a penny of this and it's brutally sad someone would stoop so low. It speaks a ton to their character or should i say lack there of. Good luck and i'm rooting for you to get the money back. I say 15 board members pledge 20 bucks each to get ya the $300 and in exchange you out this board member. I'd pay to see that so consider me as your first $20 pledge
