What Happened to the USA Gerald Ford
Seems our govt may be confused as to what happened to a 300 yard long aircraft carrier. How is that possible.

It just doesn't seem like a laundry room fire should take over a year to repair. Laundry rooms have smoke detectors and fire suppression systems. Ships are mostly steel also, not wood. I'm sure there was plenty of cloth and clothes that could burn but that should be able to be put out with trained crew and high pressure fire hose.
Sure seems fishy to me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41wFrL52v2k Lots of water used in the laundry room also.

Ships are very compartmentalized also, with closeable steel doorways. For a fire to spread widely it would have to burn through thick steel. I'm sure smoke damage and clean up is a big thing and you don't exactly get replacement stuff overseas overnight.
I just don't know if I buy it.

I have no idea what is going on. But they said previously that it was way overdue for general service, plus had obvious problems with "plumbing" and other stuff. So maybe they are just taking the opportunity to get it all done at once.

Trump implied it was attacked from 17 directions at once..
my guess is it was a drone swarm.

AI says the Navy's story is plausible. i don't have enough personal knowlege on the matter to call bs on the Navy's explanation, as of now.
my little brother flew the MH-60 Seahawk on a ship like the Tripoli, the Pelieu. i texted him to get his take on it.
the 17 directions Trump referenced in the article i cited was taken out of context and apparently was connected to the Maduro raid in Venezuela, not to the Ford.
i like to stick to facts and avoid conspiracy explanations when non-conspiracy explanations would suffice.
also if Iran actually hit the Ford with missiles-unlikely-or a drone swarm-more plausible-then Iran would be trumpeting that to every news org stationed in the Mideast, which they haven't done. so for now i'm going to side with Centcom's version of events unless or until new facts emerge making the official story more iffy.
i still think it's strange that a fire caused by some dryer lint could damage our best supercarrier and force her out of action for 12-14 months. then again, her basic plumbing doesn't even work, so there's that..

Whatever happened will eventually come out.
There are some 5,00+ sailors on board and eventually someone will give it up to Joe Rogan or Shawn Ryan or some other Podcaster.
I would think that if Iran or any other bad actor had managed to score like that, they would have told everyone who what and how it was done on every internet platform world wide.
But it was in the eastern Mediterranean . . .right? so "a hit" while plausible is less likely than the manifestation of a design flaw. the first-in-class Ford has had severe issues with a lot of things, catapults, trap wires, and even the toilet system.
Yeah, it might have been attacked in some way, but my money is on some embarrassingly stupid design flaw.

Oops . . .I was wrong about the Eastern Med. The Ford was in the Red Sea when this happened. So the likelihood that the damage was due to some hostile act is higher.
Maybe some guy in a little boat got close enough to pop an RPG-7 in through an open elevator.

The Ford had a laundry vent fire that escaped containment. A personal friend was a deck officer and Damage Control Assistant on CVN-65 in the late 90s I asked him did the laundry fire seem suspicious? He said no it's plausible that it happened exactly as reported. his direct comments:
- Ventilation ductwork is a challenge in firefighting, especially isolating the systems. Laundries produce lint and lint in the ventilation ductwork could smolder for a long period and be hard to attack
- Despite their size, carriers can be cramped and supplies and personal items stored in spaces that should be kept clear, like fanrooms.
- Depending on how hot the fire got, it could ignite fire in spaces above
- Likely, a lot of the crew displacement is the result of water and smoke damage
But I'm sure the usual suspects know better than those that actually did the job.

Trump was the person that caused any confusion. Until he made it out to be something otherwise, no one questioned it.

I'd think the Navy would have a procedure to clean vents periodically. Also dryers have a front lint catch that should be cleaned after every load. At least home based ones do, and mine is usually needing cleaned after each run.
