I'd vote to keep SNAP but make it 100% state funded and shuffle the market basket So we're deadlocked.

Remember that Republican Senators have voted 12 times to fund SNAP. Democrat Senators have voted 12 times to NOT fund SNAP.

That's absolutely inaccurate. They did not vote for a continuing resolution - meaning not moving forward without modifications to the existing plan. Go ahead and try to contort it into something else but it's not true. Democrats have been wanting to negotiate with Republicans who will not meet with them. Unless the Democrats agree to do things only as Republicans want them to - that's why they're not voting yes on a continuing resolution. Plain and simple.

A CR vote with no mods does fund SNAP and other items under the existing GOP budget, it does nothing for other equally important items such as ACA subsidies for AMERICANS. One is not uniquely different or separate from the other when the GOP won't even come to the table.

I'm going to toss this out again, if you make 20K per year, you qualify for the ACA, yes, do the math, the extra COVID relief was helpful, BUT THERE ISN'T COVID anymore, and since the emergency exists, please explain why you want to continue to pay them?

This is about food, I help my friend out, and I see the network of food banks, and other sources he has, to count on, locally, he could get at least 4 places to get food from.

Its a complex system, of donated local grocery store food, which I am sure they use as a write off, for one day in date food, some, is expired, donations from churches, local funding, state and likely federal funding as well.

I am serious about food straight from the manufacturer to the people, let the USDA expand, and just feed people, not give them 800 per month to go buy pop, chips, and all the other BAD FOODS, I see them buying.

And while beans and rice are a very basic example, they also source corn meal, canned meats, vegetables, fruit, nuts, etc.

Lets limit expedience for actual healthy things to eat, relatively.

When I visited an Indian reservation school my brother was the superintendent of, he had the cook, it was a 98 student K-12, save me an Indian Taco for dinner, all food was prepared from free USDA stuff, as, the school as many are, was completely federally funded.

What is an Indian Taco, USDA canned bison, USDA free flour, Guvmint cheese, locally bought tomatoes and lettuce, IIRC, some salsa, but not sure if it was supplied or bought locally.

The Indian part, is instead of a tortilla, or corn shell, they make fresh bread dough, and deep fry it in oil.

Yes, how to make bread, even worse.

But the point is, someone locally got a job, to prepare food for the school, and by sourcing directly from the USDA, the costs to feed those kids is far less than giving them Lunchables and Juice boxes, which is a thing, they have Institutional Lunchables that contain, MORE FAT, MORE SALT, and MORE CALORIES than the commercial ones, we feed our children like PIGS.

And why?

Not for the children, but for the nice bribe the Superintendent gets from the Institutional Lunchable food service corporation he just hired, all the while taking jobs in food service from local people.

We have a Vo Tech nearby, and guess what the students do, YES, they help COOK for other students, thereby being trained in life, and yes, in a potential job.

I got COVID three months ago. It's not gone. That said, I also don't participate in the ACA marketplace. I have other imsurance.

Ever seen the movie Brubaker. Graft can occur in any public program. I think EBT cards are considered the best way to limit institutional graft in the system.

SNAP costs taxpayers $145 billion a year.

Recipients spend TWICE what the average worker does on groceries.

That’s not “helping the poor.” It’s rewarding people who abuse the system.

Last year

$99.8 billion for the year. Benefits were, on avg, $187.20 per participant per month.

I spend more on a massage with FS per month

John Fetterman;

As a committed Democrat, I’m dismayed my party is playing chicken with the food security of 42M Americans.

I reject a political gamble that exposes a vulnerable constituency to widespread deprivation and chaos.

40% SNAP participants are obese according to a recent study.

Junk Food should not be covered by SNAP benefits.
