Wait... I thought Dems wanted to protect federal workers, not hold them hostage to a temporary COVID-relief measure which THEY designed to expire before they suddenly changed their minds.
That's not cold-hearted?

Go back to my post #47 and re-read the Cato article. It lists 6 reasons why the temporary ACA subsidies should NOT be extended. Here they are again:
1. Costs Almost Half a Trillion Dollars.
2. Funds the Well-Off.
3. Subsidizes Insurance Companies, not Patients.
4. Rampant Enrollment Fraud.
5. High Cost for Little Patient Value.
6. Temporary Emergencies Should Not Justify Permanent Entitlements.
That makes 6 reasons NOT to extend. You haven't given us a single reason why in your opinion the inflated pandemic subsidies should be extended, other than insisting it's the "better choice" and the "only lever... to get Republicans to negotiate on anything".
Sorry, but I happen to believe government policy should be based on sound, rational arguments... not deceitful, emotion-driven stunts to cast your political opponents as "cold hearted bastards".

For 35 billion dollars a year it’s better to extend the subsidies rather than leaving the government shutdown.
If you think it’s a win for the Republicants to keep the government shutdown over that then fine. Try explaining it to the voters.

They can sign the CR, like they’ve done before, and try to improve the ACA later. Or better yet, come up with a better HC system. It should have been blown up long ago.

This admin and congress hasn't shown a desire or capacity to negotiate. What happens when you load up on ideologues who can't govern by thinning out the moderates willing to do the hard work.

No, it happens when the old Devil Schitmer decides he has to play Hardball because Absolutely Obtuse Cunt is going to take his seat.
We have a one man shutdown, over what's basically a moot point, his fight to keep the Guvmint closed, directly affects one of the enrolled, and I don't want more free shit.
Times are going to be hard, and both sides are going to have to work together when the money runs out.

Nice to see you practicing what you preach, Pastor Devo
If it were a 1 vote difference, you might have a point. It's not

I wonder what Charlie Kirk would think of the closure. We know what pre-president Donald Trump thought of shutdowns. He blamed the president with no ambiguity.
Yet today RedHats say it's the Dems fault for not trusting them to negotiate on the ACA in the next few weeks or months. Unlike Charlie Brown, the Dems don't trust Lucy and her football, and yet the house won't even sit down with the DEMS to discuss
Just trust us,
While we -
Furlough workers
Eliminate entire departments
Punishing blue states
Tear down industries and even the Whitehouse..
Sure. Yeah we trust ya.
Trust ya to be the assholes you've proven yourself to be.
No thanks.

The "we'll negotiate after you do what we want" is a hilariously obvious strategy to ensure the can kick leads to another shutdown in a few months.
We do recognize how long the CR is good for, yes?

Seeing the topic is food, you can survive for 30 dollars a month.
10 pounds of beans, 30 pounds of rice, around 25 bucks, and a bottle of vegetable oil.
Nobody should go hungry, eat like Mexicans or Asians.
Not sure where government subsidies for insurance solves an upcoming food war.

I'd vote for universal free beans and rice distribution and end the SNAP benefits altogether.
