Default Alamo City Comic Con

Okay so I went and am back. First off, I had more fun outside waiting in line then I did inside. Inside I got to see all these people doing either really awesome or just hystercial cosplays. These conventions tend to bring out the weird in people and its a great opportunity for 'people watching', observing people let lose and act crazy.

At the event, Harley Quinn was a very popular cosplay, I think I saw a dozen or more of them. I also saw a couple of Deathstroke and Deadpool Cosplays, batman was a very popular recurring universe to coslpay where you got to see the whos who: Bane, Nightwing, Red Robin, Deathstroke(again), Joker, Catwoman, Batman, himself, etc.

But there was also a helping of other things like: StarWars, Legend of Zelda, Dragonball Z, X-Men, I saw Ryu from Street Fighter, My Little Pony, Ninja Turtles, Game of Thrones just to name a few.

The line was long and epic, three and a half hours to buy my general admission ticket. But after you buy your ticket, you have to wait in a second line just to use your ticket to get in and that was another hour.

Once inside, it was packed ass-tight. No amount of lube could have made it any easier to walk through that place. You were literally forced into rubbing elbows with the person in front of and behind you. Also, they were very strict about everything. I know that these operations won't allow you to take pictures of the celebs as you walk by their booths, but in this case some people were very far away and only taking pics of the promotional posters and cardboard cut outs, and the security scolded them. That was super weak. I was able to weasel out a snap shot of the actress Grey De Lisle(catwoman in Batman Arkham City) - had to stand on m tippy-toes and hold my digital camera straight over my head. Got meet the cosplay model MarieDoll from SouthTexas sporting a Morrigan Aensland cosplay(EPIC WIN) All in all, I probably navigated the hall a good hour and a half before leaving.

I actually left early before I got to see everything because it was just too packed, so packed that they actually stopped selling tickets and stopped allowing people through the door because the fire marshall had deemed it a hazard to allow anyone in. I heard one of the cops say he estimated 3000 people in line outside to just buy their tickets. And I believe it because the line didn't just go around the building, it snaked around in on itself a few times. It was freaking long.

These things aren't set up for nerds or fans of the comic books, they're more set up for middle-America and earning money. To take pics with the celebrities, it costs money and any attempts to take pictures of the celebs without paying for it, is prohibited. They're super strict. Also, the collectibles they sell: toys, DVDs, actual comics are at least twice what you pay at the store.

I don't know if I would ever go to another one, unless there was a celeb their that I really liked and wanted their autograph really bad, maybe a video game voice actor like Kevin Conroy or Troy Baker. Otherwise I'll stay home.

I took pics of some of the cosplays. Morrigan Aensland and Lilith, and Batgirl cosplays had me drooling. Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 was killer. I thought it might be cool to feature a few of them here with Halloween around the corner:

ladies, take a hint, Morrigan Aesnland from Dark Stalkers, please buy an outfit like that to wear for your clients.

^^
cosplay model LadyZe who was not at this event.

I was actually thinking about going because of some cosplayers that I like are there. Of course it would have been cool to meet some celebs and artists. There is still Austin Wizard Comic Con in November...the guest list is way cool! I can't make it because of work. Another Con will be in Houston next May I believe. I'm gonna plan that one for sure maybe even cosplay myself.
It sounds like you had fun regardless of the crowd.

Yup I hear ya on that. I went yesterday late in the afternoon, no lines and not too many people inside. I enjoyed some of the eye candy, Catwoman behind a table signing pics and a sexy blonde female version of Bane to name a few. Lots of collectibles, art and stuff for sell but nothing I really couldn't will myself not impulse buy lol. Besides that, unless there is a celeb I would really want to meet, I don't see any reason I'd go back to one.
Now if Gamest0p had another video game convention, I'd do that again!

I went today in the afternoon. It was insanely crowded. I did not have to wait long to get in, just about 15 minutes. A lot of entertaining characters around. I found me a few things worth having and got them. All in all, it was a fun excursion. I would definitely like to go to another one.

ok, this is Alamo Con's first year. Their disorganized and obviously didn't plan on this many people. Need to move to AlamoDome next year. San Antonio has had the Texas Comicon over at the San Antonio Event Center the last 4 years seems like way out of town ( 410 & marbach).

I'm not sure why they gave people problems with taking pictures of banners, shouldn't be a problem. As for celebrities, I've never seen a con where you could take pictures so easily. Even in panels they let people use flash, and usually that's not allowed.

Friday wasn't too bad with scheduling problems and crowds were manageable.
Saturday scheduling feel apart and people overwhelmed them.

Tony Parker stopped by to look around, he looked like he was having fun looking around the A-Team van, ghostbuster car, and the back to the future car.

Houston's Comicpaloozza is fantastic at the Convention Center, multiple floors. There's like 20 or more panel rooms, giant gaming room, different sections for artists, celebrities, collectibles, wresting ring with wrestling. They have roller derby.

San Antonio definitely has the same potential to be as big or bigger, maybe like New York or even San Diego.

The news said their estimating over 40,000 people came out this weekend.

I hope it succeeds, and of course it's always great to see the women in costumes.

Don't forget: Women Come to SA's Halloween Party (costume would be fun)

Alamo City was my first ever Comic Con, been to a couple of Anime Conventions before. Gotta say, despite the really, REALLY poor planning and organization, I had a lot of fun.

I dressed up for it, too, so I got stopped for...way too many pictures. I didn't take but a few pictures- not really my thing. Bought the 3 Day pass, so no lines for me!

They weren't very strict about the celebrity picture taking until late Saturday. Before that, everyone was just standing slightly away and popping pictures of every celeb there. Shoot, even with security all around, I still got to sneak a low 5 with Danny Trejo. Of course, the Walking Dead's Glenn and Maggie were COMPLETELY cordoned off...so no luck there.

The panels were great. They tended to be completely Q&A, so it made for some really fun things happening- including two "It's Morphing Time!" re-enactments and, oh yes, "Yakko's World". I don't think I'll ever forget the dramatic reading of "Back to the Future" with Winnie the Pooh as Biff.

This reminds me, actually, I have some websites and people to check out...

Wow... glad i skipped it if it was that disorganized. I would have loved to get Taimak's auto since I love Last Dragon, but that was really about it.

Im heading to the Wizard World Comic Con this month in Austin (been going every year since they added Austin to the tour). Way bigger celebrities, and very well run. I'll be heading to the Space City Con in Galveston in January... can't pass up a Babylon 5 reunion show

Wizard World is adding a show stop in San Antonio starting next year. Aug 1-3rd.
