In my experience it's slightly more than 3/4 of women don't enjoy it. As for the smell. if the girl is clean there really is no odor. The bad smell comes when the blood hits air and dries on her skin and hair (that why clean shaven is best). In the days when most girls used pads this was a problem. Now most girls use tampons and there is no odor. I have done daty, then discovered to our surprise, that the lady was starting her period. I also have found that a lady at that time can be very horny, very sensitive. I however have not done a large enough sample size to be able to state any of this with any accuracy.

With regards to STDs. Body fluids are generally the culprit we worry about. With genital warts and some other issues, perhaps body fluids are less of an issue.
