US Attacks IS Targets in Northwest Nigeria
Well, Trump is not ending any wars this week.
A month ago, he started threatening Nigeria over what people in his circle have called a Christian genocide - though the numbers don't really support that - carried out by "ISIS Terrorist Scum," even as far as threatening to cut off aid to the most populous country in Africa.
Tonight, Twitler announced on her personal bullhorn channel that the US had launched a "deadly strike" in the country, with cooperation of the Nigerian government. There has been no statement by the government of Nigeria on that yet.

We lost a big opportunity to gain allies (sp) in Africa by helping various goverments in training their soldiers in anti-terrorist activities. The gains would be to supplant China and have first dibs on resources.
Seeing as donny groups them in Shit Hole nation status, this wasn't a surprise from him.

Precious_b, The best recent example I can think of where the USA lost out was in Niger in 2024, when Biden was president. The U.S. got kicked out, despite providing anti-terrorist support and training.
They hate France, the former colonial power in the Sahel, but not the USA. The USA had its chance to do exactly what you describe, supporting Mali, Burkina Faso and others in anti-terrorist activities, but didn't do it for God knows why not.
This is a bipartisan failure. The Trump administration didn't help with its massive aid cuts to Africa. China indeed has first dibs in many countries.

i can't really speak to the strike in Nigeria. i'm no fan of ISIS, so i won't be shedding too many tears for any terrorists killed. do they pose a threat of violence to Christians in Nigeria? my sense is that if they could, militarily and operationally, they would, but not just to Christians. pretty much anyone who does not ascribe to their warped version of Islam. but Trump has no cred, so i don't know if they do or not, and i don't take him at his word, cause his word is basically worthless.
same with Boko Haram. kidnapping and raping in the manner they do deserves a sentence far worse than death. Trump could slaughter the whole lot of them and i wouldn't even blink or check the authorizing statutes.
what will 100% keep Trump from ever winning a Nobel, though, is Venezuela (and prolly the extrajudicial assassinations too). he could cremate a whole battalion of ISIL terrorists and still be in the running with the Committee.

Half of the population is Christian. Best accounts indicate that upwards of 100,000 Christians have died over the past 16 years in Nigeria, a country of 275 million.
Meanwhile 60,000 Muslims have been killed by IS factions.
How many Americans have died by gun violence over the past 16 years? The number would dwarf Trump’s alleged genocide. In fact, more than 43,000 Americans died from gun related incidents in 2023 alone.
Where’s the real massacre?
Trump and Hegseth are playing more cowboy shoot em up games in countries with rich resources coveted by the Earless Leader.
That is apparent.

Maybe there are more Christians in the USA than gun fearing Americans?
Not sticking up for anyone because I do not pretend to know much about foreign policy.

Come on!!
Now you boys are against protecting Christianity also??!!
EVERYONE knows that the best way to prevent violence against Christians is to kill people!
I'm pretty sure Christ said that.
Really. Look it up. I'm not going to do my homework for you.
(no one else in Trump's world of "Christianity" does....why should I?)

this author posits that the strike was nothing more than pandering to his Christian Zionist base. seems as good an explanation as any. Boko Haram would have been a legitimate and less random target. those people are vicious animals imo and could use a couple of good airstrikes..

I wonder if Trump knows the Christians he's saving are black.
Looks like it's not even Boko Haram we hit.

Nope. None of that kind of leftist, liberal pussy bullshit any more!
We've got good Christians to save!
Mr. Trump said in a post on Truth Social that “the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!”
THAT is true! We have not seen Christians being killed at these levels since....maybe the Crusades!
(oh....wait....that was mostly Muslims that were killed...never mind...no one cares...about the Muslims killed here either...)

President Donald Trump on Tuesday imposed full suspension on eight countries and partial suspension on 16 others, affecting immigrants and nonimmigrants on B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M, and J visas.
The restrictions apply to both people seeking to travel to the U.S. as visitors or to emigrate there.

Trump's description of Nigeria attacks

“I said yesterday, ‘Hit them on Christmas Day. It will be a Christmas present.’ We hit ISIS, who are terrible. They are butchers. We really hit them hard in different locations. They really got hit hard yesterday. They got a very bad Christmas present,”
