Default Cory Booker sets Senate record for longest Filibuster.

https://www.politico.com/news/2025/0...peech-00265142

Cory Booker wrote himself into the Senate annals Tuesday, setting a new record for the chamber’s longest speech when he held the floor for more than 25 hours and surpassed the late Sen. Strom Thurmond’s 1957 filibuster against civil rights.

The New Jersey Democrat took the floor at 6:59 p.m. on Monday, saying he was doing so with the “intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able” in order to protest the actions of President Donald Trump and his administration.

You may not respect the message but you have to respect the effort!

I just want to know who his chiropractor is, what kind of shoes he was wearing and whether he drinks coffee or energy drinks to be able to stand up and move around for 25+ hours straight.

I agree about the effort, but he will likely get no results other than a lot of well-earned sleep for himself.

The Title of this Thread is misleading.

Booker did not participate in a Filibuster.

His speech was a protest, it was not tied to a piece of legislation.

Thurman's filibuster was against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Depends.....no bathroom breaks.

Oh, Thurmond was a Democrat when he filibustered civil rights.

Someone beat me to it, no legislation so no filibuster. Just wasted time for Spartacus.

biomed1 is correct. I misunderstood the original article and incorrectly titled the thread. My Bad.

From my perspective it doesn’t take away from the event. As I understand it he followed the same Senate rules required for a filibuster. He stayed standing the entire time.

Can’t wait to see the MAGA response. Not the social media jingo jango, but the petty response of Der Scheissfuhrer hisself.
