Outback is no longer America's king of steaks
https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/28/busin...orn/index.html
Not shocking, but I do have many a fond memory of the blooming onion.
What was your favorite thing about Outback?

Had a meh ribeye there because someone was in the hospital across the street and the cafeteria was closed. It’s edible but doesn’t hold a candle to Morton’s.

The St Clair Outback was a hub for footballs games. Had some good times there. A local guy owned it and sold a better grade steak than the Franchise did. They ordered him to buy the meats from their purveyor or give up the store. He sold it back to them. It got flooded out a year later never to reopen. Karmas a bitch.

It's not supposed to hold a candle to Morton's

I burn my own meat.

You're not supposed to burn it. This explains so much

Outback was never great steakhouse imo thou the blooming onion was delicious and never worry about bowel movements for a week after eating it.
IMO, the most underrated steak chain is longhorn as it’s affordable and I’m old fashioned in liking several courses that come with it vs the ala carte expensive places.

Great steakhouse it was not. Accessible, consistent and at the time focused on a novel niche for a national chain with fake Aussie flair slapped onto American cuisine with the right touch of salt to deliver a taste of Tampa with a veneer of Paul Hogan (Not Hulk Hogan, also based in Tampa).
Sure was popular, tho

You said in your title “king of Steaks”. They were never king of steaks. They went the way of Bonanza.
