Default BBQ downtown

I will have the pleasure of visiting your wonderful city in the coming weeks and am hoping to score some of that world famous BBQ. Any recommendations from the locals? I'll be staying downtown at the country club plaza, walking distance is a plus. Thanks in advance my fellow savages!

Well....
Plaza is not downtown.
And depending on how far you're ok with walking:
Jack Stack (only one in walking distance)

Lol. I guess everything seems downtown compared to the metropolis of Delaware. Thanks for the recommendation!

if you dont try Gates your missing out, even have songs written about it and the KC BBQ scene. Everything you need to know is in this song.

Well UC has some good choices. Joe's has a multitude of different combo sandwiches. There is also the Char Bar in Westport. For some of my favorites, you have to be more mobile. I like Slaps (big portions and honey based sauce)and Lawnside BBQ in KCKS. You could take the pilgrimage to Arthur Bryant's East of downtown( sauce is has a vinegar base). All the presidents have eaten there.
You will get everyones opinion. Here the sauce is King. I haven't really had bad bbq here. Some places I like the sauce better is all.

$50+ later, I am pleased to announce that I have a week's worth of Slaps BBQ in my fridge. I picked up coffee at Restaurant Depot since I was in the neighborhood.

Slaps is good I have always been a big fan of gates, don’t forget about Bryant’s if you are throwing Gates into the mix.

(Well, not all - but quite a few Democrat presidents trying to get attention in the inner city, It still is good even if they put ashes in one of the sauces to counteract the vinegar, so just eat the tender meat - or take it home and buy a quart of RoseDale sauce.)

Well Tail Hooked has got it right again.

Just an observation. If you walk into a BBQ Joint, it is suppose to be about the food: that is why they call it a joint. If you see people in suits and ties, walk away: this isn't worth you time or money (Read that as Q 39 - an overpriced imitation of what BBQ should be.) BBQ is not suppose to be about dinning: it is about an eating experience with just good food. If it isn't slow cooked and fall off the bone tender, it isn't real BBQ. So let's forget about all the cook to order places that claim to be BBQ: they are not.

Bryant's have huge sandwiches and the meat is slow cooked & they now have different sauces.

RoseDale BBQ has been left out again: Because of the food, I think it is one of the best in town.
