Default First world problems.

So i just recently moved into a new apartment. Ive been pretty busy with everything so i figured id take today off and do laundry. As im folding it i notice its all ruined. Holes, black marks and a shredded brand new $200 matress cover. Im pissed. I try to keep a really low profile due to obvious reasons. So im trying to think of the most tactfull way to handle this. I doubt ill be able to get them to reimburse me but whats the best way to document the damages? I figure maybe i could use it to my advantage if they try to keep my deposit when i move out. I was told thats a big thing here. Advice anyone?

So did the washer tear up the bed cover? If so, just document via pictures and make friends with the ladies in the main office. Just be your sweet self and be honest about what happened- not your actual job!

It's what is considered "non-real property" and has nothing to do with your deposit or rent. If you try to withhold rent based on it you will be evicted and the deposit is only a security deposit against any damage that you may do to a property minus normal wear and tear. It doesn't do anything to protect you.

They probably have a posted disclosure stating that they are not responsible for any damage done in the laundry.

It sucks but that's the way it is.

+ 1 on Y dude... BUT who owns the washers? If they are leased by a company (not the apt) you may be able to contact them. Check to see if this has happened to others you then may have a case. BUT don't count on it...

I think you just chalk it as a loss and move on. Maybe if you still have the receipt take it back to wear it was purchased our contract the manufacturer.

Sorry for the issues. But try not to take it personally.

Definitely, if the washers/dryers are in a laundry room used by multiple renters, you should at least complain to apartment management and possibly even post a warning sign in the laundry area to alert others to the potential issues. And tell others that have suffered the issues to register complaints with management.

Perhaps you need to find a new outside-the-complex laundry, maybe even one that does a paid for "fluff and fold" (not to be conflicted with a hobby "fluff and fold").

That said, kudos on the new digs and may you enjoy them beyond the laundry issues.
