I'ts a bit of a drive, I'm guessing about 15-20 miles from the Plaza. I'm referring to the one at the Legends as that' the only one I've been to in the KC area.

My point is, when someone says "eat KC BBQ in KC" you recommend KC BBQ, not a chain restaurant from Minnesota.

If you want to start a good argument in KC, just start talking about the "best" BBQ or, for that matter, the best escort!! LOL!!

The BBQ here is awesome... If you like an average cut of meat drowned in someone's idea of what sauce is. Memphis by far has the best BBQ I've ever had (including what Texas calls BBQ, Ms. Dallas ;-P)

That being said, there are few places that do a "decent" job here. No, not Gates or Joe's.

Slaps in the dot is good if you like a sweet BBQ. Get there early, they're only open til they sell out. Normally by 2pm.

McGonigle's has the best smoked meat in town.

Pound for pound, Bryant's has the best cuts of meat.

Smokehouse up north is also decent, the best wings of any joint here in town.

All are ok, but nothing like what you'd get in Memphis. Brainwashed Kansas City BBQ drones, you may begin hating now. :-)

Westport Flea Market has a great burger in a fun location.

Hereford House has a very good steak.

Joe's of KC (formerly known as Oklahoma Joe's) has fantastic BBQ. However, if you don't want to wait over an hour in line I suggest going to BB's Lawnside BBQ. They have great food, beer and blues. It's a fun night out.

There's a couple restaurants in KC that can do seafood. It depends on your budget. I am a fan of Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar. If you want to spend a bit more, Pierpont's in Union Station is pretty good.

And of course Stroud's for their fried chicken.
