Is YMMV reality or an excuse?
Lots of places you see YMMV. The idea behind it is that if the time is less than stellar, it's the hobbyist's fault.
I would think that most ladies have a level of service they habitually provide. Then why does the session vary so drastically?
As a general rule, I think a lot of people (not all) are lazy, escorts included. Being lazy, it's easier to give a mediocre time than a stellar one. So is YMMV an excuse for laziness? Or is it squarely the hobbyist's fault.
BTW, I don't believe a poor/mediocre session can be solely blamed on the hobbyist, but I do believe it can solely be blamed on the escort.

Quite the contrary, Chuckles. In many cases YMMV means "I had a fantastic time (and b/c we really hit it off she gave me xyz....) but YMMV" as in "worked for me but don't get pissed if it doesn't for you..."

I dunno. Is it considered lazy when it is suggested to someone that they write up their own fictitous steller encounter and they won't take the time and effort to do so?
Is that squarely the provider's fault?
Unless, you believe the providers are robot-like...it just stands to reason that they click better with some than others.

I was talking reality, not fiction.
But, as usual, RK, you insist on reveling in fiction.

The lady saw me and I was spic n span clean. My teeth were brushed and my breath was deoderized. I was sober too.
Then someone came in the next day with BO, bad breath and half drunk.
Pray tell Charles, was it the providers fault she wouldn't kiss him when she swabbed my tonsils. Was it her fault that he hadn't washed his dick in 4 days and though she gave me a bbbj, she didn't even give him an hj and made him put his on rubber on.

Not to mention I was polite and respectful both on the phone and in person, and didn't try to talk her into giving me her usual $300 session for $125 .

Millage does vary for the reasons JB pointed out and all the reasons in between. Throw into the pot that some people just plain and simply click while others absolutely don’t. That’s just the way it is. That’s the way it is in the dating arena; it’s just the way it is when interviewing for a job and it’s just the way it is when it comes to physical chemistry and intimacy.

Interpersonal interactions are not idempotent.
It's a lot to ask to expect the interactions between two people be the same each time, much less to vary the two parties each time as well. Same goes for most service businesses.

I get decent mileage because I drive a Yugo with a steam engine running on wood pyrolysis.
Seriously, though, the whole interaction is incredibly complex and simply cannot be predicted.
You have two people, each of whom brings both positive and negative past experiences with them. They bring religious and personal values, along with values imbued by culture and media. They may even bring guilt or fear. And then you have the intricacies of their interpersonal verbal and non-verbal communication, some of which takes place at an unconscious level. Then you have variations in social skills and establishing rapport, etc. on both sides.
And THEN on top of all of that you quite literally have chemistry. Women have the ability to detect whether a given man's immune system will give them healthier babies; and this detection is done within a couple of seconds and unconsciously. Men have the ability to detect whether a woman is ovulating. If she's not, he finds her less attractive. Again, unconsciously. Meanwhile, assessment of attractiveness is made within 200 milliseconds -- faster than conscious thought.
And then all this unconscious stuff interacts with the conscious, but can also affect limbic systems revealing itself in unintended body language to which the other person reacts, etc.
I could literally write a book with hundreds of citations on why YMMV in an encounter with a woman for whom you are not her chosen mate.
But I'm not gonna. At least no time in the near future because I have too many projects as it is.
But yes, YMMV is real. Hey, it DOES work both ways. I know guys who have faked orgasm to make a provider stop. Condoms are cool. LOL

I don't mean to be judgmental or to make this a personal issue, but if you have such a negative view, why do you bother to see escorts at all? It can't be much fun if you have such negative expectations.
For me, the idea is to have fun, excitement and temporary fulfillment with a lady who is attractive and skilled. I see YMMV in the half full sense: I was lucky enough to be treated to the really good stuff saved for a favored few. Yet to be truthful, these great blessings are rarely bestowed, but frevently appreciated.
I guess I've been lucky or properly selective but I haven't had a mediocre session in over two years. At a minimum, the pretty ones have been acceptably eager and the plainer girls have been exceptionally skilled so I always leave a happy guy.
But if I were to fall into a state where I lacked an eager anticipation for each session, I think I would fade into the hobby sunset.
