Reese --

It wasn't long ago that likinikki asked for and got suggestions on the best Tex-Mex in SA; I leave it to you to sort thru all the arguments:

http://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=61683

I didn't see the discussion on BBQ; I've been to County Line, which has locations on the Riverwalk and IH-10W (somewhere btw the Medical & Huebner exits); and Rudy's with locations on IH-10W (a few miles outside Loop 1604) and Hwy 151. I wouldn't "fall on my sword" to argue that they're the best in SA, but I've enjoyed both.

Like steak? The signature hickory-smoked sirloin medallions at Texas Land & Cattle are to die for -- I consider it a sacrilege to use steak sauce on them. (I'd recommend no more "done" than medium, though; with the smoking, they tend to be dry if "done" any more.) Locations on Loop 410E, just E of McCullough (& North Star Mall) and I-10W, very close to County Line BBQ.

If you want "tourist" restaurants, I suggest going downtown to Mi Tierra or hit the Riverwalk and go to Rio Rio. (You asked for 'tourist' restaurants, not 'best'...)

County Line is good, but SA is more known for Tex-Mex than BBQ.

Rio Rio? I think you are referring to Casa Rio.

For Mexican food, Rosario's on S. St. Mary's or Aldaco's @ Sunset Station.

La Fogatta and Los Barrios are great places for Mexican food.

La Fogatta is very touristy with killer Margaritas. Maybe a little pricey but great service and ambiance.

My favorite place to take out-of-town visitors is Boudro's Texas Bistro on the Riverwalk (http://www.boudros.com). Order the guacamole.

I know the perfect place to take your lady 2. I went two days in a row it's not on the river walk but well worth it. I was looking for a place with desert wine and I was ref to this site. If you choose this place try the shimp as well there flat bread OMG. Wine sampling is avaliable and beer is offerd if u are not a wine drinker.

I concur on the smoked sirloin at TxLC. As for barbecue, I'd like to put in a good word for my favorite, the Barbecue Station (http://www.barbecuestation.com/).

The barbecue station is the SHIZZLE. Happened to bump into it on my very first visit here before I moved.... 14 YEARS AGO! Been going regularly ever since.

Low key. but not so much touristy.

Chesters if you want a good burger and beer or Chris Madrids. Again not that much on the tourist scene but good stuff.

Hope this helps.

Sympy.

Just went to a new restaurant located at the Old Pearl Brewery plant. Excellent coastal Mexican food. Name escapes me but worth a shot if you get tired of Tex-Mex (who does?)
