I rather like the term call girl, though in my mind I would only use that in reference to a hot little strumpet still in her teens (18-19) & twenties. Oh, I just realized after writing the first sentence that I like the term strumpet too.

Oh, I like the term "strumpet" as well! It conjures up the image of a sexy British babe!
The term "callgirl" generally refers to a lady who is "on call" and available within two hours or so. It is a catchy term, though! Just rolls off the tongue.

Maybe the 2 hour connotation isn't a good one. But ignore the exact amount of time....call it 2 days notice...isn't a "call girl" the very essence of what a lot of guys desire?
I/We want a gal that we can call for adult fun (define as you wish) - often on relatively short notice - without the hassles, drama, commitment or courtship involved in a traditional relationship and in return we are prepared to pay appropriately.
Sure for some guys there may be an element of fantasy involved or there is an appeal to "dating out of our league" but in many cases convenience and availabilty, even with higher end gals, plays a big role.
Granted it is fiction, but I'm reminded of a scene from the old 80's sitcom Night Court. Someone asked Harry Anderson/"Judge Stone" how he got appointed to the bench.
He pauses and then says, "(whoever was handling the vetting process for appointments) had several pages of names, there was a backlog of cases, it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I was the only one at home and picked up the phone..."
Was Stone a competent judge? Probably. Was he the only one on the list that would have done well? Certainly not. But he picked up the phone....

Oh, I have my own fantasies...I often wish I had the type of schedule that allowed me to have my "bat phone" on 24 hours a day and be able to zip off to see a gent with little notice. That is a sexy fantasy! Unfortunately, other activities in my life require more like 48 hours. Boooooo!!! I'm envious of the ladies who can pull it off. Sexy kudos to them!!
I think I remember that show...and I think I had a crush on that judge! Always had a thing for the older gents I guess. Thank you for the happy childhood memory and crush. <3

Agreed: Strumpet is a great term . . .

And "hobbyist" just creeps me out for some reason.
Jenny DeMilo wrote a blog about it I like: http://jennydemilo.com/?p=597
Does anyone else find these terms creepy or unsexy?

I have to admit that these terms which you described have an impersonal connotation, at least to me. Although correct by definition, hobbyist sounds lame and facile IMHO. I like to think of myself as a client or patron rather than a hobbyist. I am paying a fee in exchange for a lady's time and companionship; therefore, I much prefer to be identified by the former rather than the latter term.
Provider is quite correct, I suppose, in that the literal meaning of the term is congruent with the act of a lady rendering a service (her time). It still seems quite impersonal nonetheless.
I, for one, enjoy the sensual and personal aspects of spending time with a lady, so, for obvious reasons, I much prefer the term Courtesan; it is much more classy, personal, and just plain sexier.
I love your avatar sweetie. Your photo is exquisite. I now must peruse your showcase or webpage. You are a beauty.
I certainly do not intend to step on anyone's toes by my statements. Keep in mind that it is only my opinion from my personal perspective.
Ciao

I remember that scene, it was the first episode on the show. When he saw the entire court staff looking at him he finished by saying "but I WAS on the list."

The Present State of Whorecraft, Adultery, Fornication, Procuring, Pimping and Sodomy
There is no art in turning a goddess into a witch, a virgin into a whore, but the opposite operation, to give dignity to what has been scorned, to make the degraded desirable, that calls for art or character.
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749–1832
Welcome to the first issue of Whore! magazine. In the pages of this and future issues, we will be exploring the many aspects of a heavily loaded term, the use of which can range from the most offensive denigration to humorous self-depreciation to an expression of affectionate admiration. In exploring what we mean when we say “whore,” we’ll be looking at subjects as diverse as the history of vibrators, the implications of hipster stripping, the intricacies of menstruation rituals, and the wild ways of onetime United States presidential candidate Victoria Woodhull.
The word “whore” calls to mind biblical fury, low-end streetwalkers, crack addicts, and that girl at the party who flirts with everyone. With a little more consideration, thoughts might turn to the high school slut or the chick who borrowed your favorite dress and never returned it.
That’s all old school. In recent years the word has gone through some creative revisions. “Corporate Whore” was coined to describe those who exploit others for personal gain in the workplace. “Dork Whore,” “Food Whore,” “Shoe Whore,” and “Shopping Whore” are a few of any number of related epithets used by many to describe themselves and others, implying that consuming anything in excess has a potentially delicious hue of shame. The word, however, is as old as the gods (or at least some of their earliest linguistic references) and its proto-Germanic root, *khoraz (fem. *khoron) means “one who desires.” We at Whore! magazine propose that the meaning of the word be returned to its venerable origins, at least for the purposes of these pages.
Desire has driven civilization. Historically, many women have earned the title of whore for daring to engage in such masculine pursuits as getting an education, providing medical care to the underprivileged, leading an army, or just going out in public in a very dashing tuxedo. “Fags,” “dykes,” and “queers” have also been a part of this history, dancing with the whores and just as often condemned. While their battles still rage, in many places they’ve succeeded in claiming their identity and owning the words that were once used to demean them.
Whore! magazine neither condones nor judges. Instead we are dedicated to exploring those extraordinarily flawed, devilishly ambitious, and wickedly mercurial individuals who refuse to live what Thoreau so aptly described as “lives of quiet desperation.” Societal expectations haunt us all. There are those, or so some say, who have succeeded in the realms of love, family, and career, and have navigated these waters with the virtues of grace, humility, and always maintaining a pleasant manner remaining intact. The rest of us have been a bit messier. We pop pills, we fall for inappropriate partners, we stay up too late, we get fired, we have affairs, we lie, and we struggle with guilt, madness, depression, and apathy. We bitch, we piss off our families, we talk too loud, we go outside without makeup on—or we go out with too much on. We forget to be empowered and sometimes we care too deeply what others think of us. Along this bumpy road, we give and receive love, experience transcendence, feel joy, and sometimes we even change the world. With all of this, in other times today’s woman would almost invariably have been dismissed as a whore.
Whore! magazine is dedicated to those who have defied all expectations and made such a difference that they had to be cast aside. It creates a rare space where we can expose and celebrate who we really are.

Courtesan does not seem to apply as a general term. I would reserve that term for a very select few that have the skill set to match the denotation of that word.
The word strumpet does roll of the tongue. . .
How about aficionado instead of hobbyist?

The Mafia call their hobby/lifestyle la cosa nostra, literally our thing. The French seem to have the best terminology ie la petit mort meaning the little death for an orgasm. Can't wait to do a little dying tonight.
