I think Godai wins the poll and I would have to agree, I've been to every place mentioned and I would have to agree. Goro's is pretty good too on 410 and Vance Jackson. Actually Godai used to work for them and then opened his own place. Sushi Zushi has the best looking girl customers and staff girls. I go to the one at Colonnade and lots of the women look like models who go to aerobics class. I always laugh with my brother telling him we are the only overweight people who go there. Also I noticed they never hire anybody chubby. They want to convey that image that sushi keeps you young and good looking or something. For a town as chubby as San Antonio it's weird walking in that place. Then walk into China Sea buffet and you will see the real San Antonio. LOL.

Two other thoughts: Sushihana on NW Military just outside loop 410 and Koi Kawa on Broadway in Alamo Heights.

With Sushi Zushi, I think it depends on which location you go. I understand the Lincoln Heights location is supposed to be ok. Personally, I won't go to any of them, as I got food poisoning from the Colonnade location. Here are my favorites:

1. Sushihana - NW Military
2. Godai - West Ave
3. Samuri Sushi - Babcock Rd
4. Sake Cafe - Blanco Rd
5. Goro's - Mossrock
6. Koi Kawa - Broadway

Not to nit-pick, Goro (the person) owns Godai, Goro's (the restaurant) is an establishment Goro was part owner in, had a falling out with partner, ended up leaving. I know it can be confusing, I was confused also, but he (Goro) set me straight.

China Sea, yeah puro San Anto......

Fujiya on Wurzbach. Crunch roll and Fujiya roll are excellent as is the sashimi.

Personally, I like Godai the best. William always makes you feel like you're one of his best friends and is always smiling and cracking jokes...and the service is excellent!

Just saw a thing on the Food Channel that was Sushi for those on the run.
Comes in a plastic air tight container and is sliced so you can pop them out one at a time. Novel. 2 day shelf life.

Thanks for straightening that out oldtiger about Goro because I was confused myself. They have this sushi at Godai that is really very unique. It's the shape of a pretty flower on a plate where all the flower petals are different sushi pieces. A very nice touch. The only thing about Godai is the atmosphere and decor are not very nice so you don't go there for the ambiance. I think it used to be a barbeque place or something and it's pretty plain. Great sushi but I wouldn't take a first date there for a romantic setting. Unless it was Likinikki because she obviously likes it and her beauty would create the ambiance.

I just want to add my vote for Godai, great food, really liked the quality and quantity. Sushi bar was fun. Tried something called the Seafood Enchilada.

I want to thank everyone for your input. I have a lot of testing to do. Unfortunately I have to go back to work 5 days early.. or I would have had a chance to test a couple of places this weekend. I might hit the Zushi Sushi place this evening since it is very close.. Once again thank you and see you all in about 28 days...

Thanks for the report dennisrn re the 281/Evans Rd Sushi free samples.

During the S & L crisis, I lived on free samples at the Albertsons near Basse/Broadway (Now an HEB) for about 6 months. Would have starved to death without those free samples.

So, the Sushi is good, sometimes its free, but what is the HEB hottie situation wiyth the 281/Evans RD HEB?

Just came back from Sushi Zushi, it was pretty good. I had some of my favorites,
Tobiko ( Flying fish roe) Black Tobiko w/ raw quail egg, Salmon Skin roll, Sea Urchin, and as Appetizer, some seaweed salad and steamed white rice. Oh , Plus an Ice cold Kiren beer. The S.O. had some grilled Scallops, and we of course shared everything. It was all very good. Place was pretty well packed on a Thursday evening.
I need to go back and try some other things, they have a very extensive menu. The dessert menu looks awesome as well.

I wanted to try this one first as it is a local place.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.
