I used to collect rare, out of print dvds. I got most of them for a decent price when normally they're pretty expensive. Once spent $60 on an OOP DVD, then 6 months later a much cheaper special edition was released. That experience kind of soured me on the whole collecting thing.

I'll jump in and bring this back on track.....I used to collect Stereoviews (still have a nice collection), paperweights (if they were cool looking) and silver wine cups (when I could afford them). Now it all collects dust...

When I first got into playing guitar, I started to purchase a few, with an eye towards "collecting." But I found that I got so caught up in it that I was distracted from what got me interested in the first place, i.e. actually playing the damn things. So I got rid of almost everything that I don't actually play. But if I had more disposable income, I would love to get back into that.

The "old toy" thing is cool too. I have a couple of old pieces from the early 1900's that I inherited that are really interesting. And I love looking at old scientific and technical instruments - they are often beautifully made, with lots of fine craftsmanship.
