Default Rand Paul's Mistake

He gave a great speech, but it fell on deaf ears. The Republicans are not going to change.

Endorsing Romney may have looked like a good tactical move, but in the end, we will get the same disrespect from the Republicans that we always have. Enough is enough. If Romney loses, I hope it is because of Gary Johnson and Ron Paul. Someday they have to learn they can no longer ignore people who want to be free.

So Rand Paul made the mistake of trying to change the GOP from within ?

It's not going to change. I wish it would, Whirly, but look at the response Rand got from the Establishment. It will go nowhere. Too many entrenched interests in the status quo.

I respect Rand for trying. Just like I respect you for trying (even though it doesn't sound like it, I do). I just think an attack from the outside will be more effective.

The Republican Party isn't going to change. Except to get more liberal.

It might not change; but the Reason analysis says otherwise, acknowledgeing that

"these sentiments are new and alien to the modern Republican Party, and would have been driven out of the RNC by a pitchfork-wielding mob as recently as 2004. They are shared by a small but growing portion of the GOP caucus on Capitol Hill."

True, the necessary foreign policy shifts will be very very difficult to reform within the GOP; but will be aided by the economic realities of our debt. Rand Paul, and others are very capable of making a very good case to American voters that downsizing military ambitions is a net plus for us. I am not pessimistic about this at all.

Tell you what, Whirly, if Romney wins, and the country starts heading the right direction, instead of just slowing down in the wrong direction, I will praise your wisdom on this board in glowing terms. But I'm going to have to see it first.

In the end; if Rand Paul and others (within the GOP) attempts at reform fail,,,,chances are the LP option won't work either.....afterall, it will be the electorate determining which road we go down. If it can't be sold to the electorate, the problem will not be the messanger, but the message., what makes you think the LP can sell the ideas?

So, your dream of an LP uprising isn't happening......we have one reasonable shot at changing the course, if that doesn't happen, any revolutionary changes in America will look more like the French Revolution than the American Revolution.

What are your metrics for measuring the direction ?

Like I have been saying; incremental changes....that is how a country of 330 million will be peacefully turned....

It's a good thing the Dimo's aren't controlled by unions, trial lawyers and environmental extremists. Don't forget Obama got more money from Wall Street bankers than McCain.

I forgot I'm not supposed to point out your hypocrisy. It's ok for the Dimo's to take special interest money, but not the Republicans. That's how it works, right?

hypocrisy has nothing to do with it, the republicans were mentioned, I stayed on topic

had the dems been held in the same light, I would have said the same about them
