Back in the 1800s there was a British Prime Minister, an apparently very devout fellow, who regularly visited the vice districts in London. Supposedly he talked with the ladies and attempted to turn them back to the pathways of virtue. No one ever proved that he ever gave way to tempatation, but you have to wonder.

Back to the subject at hand.....In Tucson a long time ago, back when I was posting on cl, there was a religious group flagging the posts as soon as they went up and emailing all the girls trying to save them from their sinful ways. It was annoying.

I always believed that "escorts" were a make-believe thing. Sort of a media creation.

A few years ago, a church group hired me to do a study on escorts; and told me where to look to find them.

The study had two parts. For the first part, I had to estimate providers as a percentage of 18+ female population. I wrote some custom software to do that.

For the second part, I had to convince providers to sit down and talk with me. (The church gave me money to pay their fee.) That wasn't very easy; but across the country I eventually found 30 ladies to do it.

Prior to this; as mentioned, I didn't believe escorts really existed. And if they DID exist, I did not have a favorable impression of what they must be like. I had a lot of stereotypes rattling around in my skull.

The first couple of interviews I attributed to flukes. But by the time I was halfway through the list; I was convinced not only of the reality of escorts, but that a lot of the stereotypes I had (as well as stereotypes for which the church was seeking confirmation) simply were not accurate.

The church paid me but was not pleased with the results of the interviews; so they never used the work.

On the other hand, I was quite pleased with the results of the interviews.

Essentially, a church organization paid me to become comfortable dealing with escorts.

I certainly didn't run right out and book; because I had no reason at the time. But when I DID decide to do so, the church's generous funding of lots of interview time with providers had long since broken the ice.
