I thin I agree with WW- but I could have sworn Obama was asked this question because obviously it will hurt small business to offer every employee insurance but I am almost certain their was a provision to help small business get employees insured but in principle WW is correct.

Actually, what you need to ask her is what Hillary Clinton's plan was.

Then you need to ask her what she was saying about the mandate while it was Hillary Clinton's plan.

Then you need to ask her why she voted for the mandate if she really believes even half of the crap she's spouting off about Barack Obama's mandate.

Then you'll perhaps figure out everything you need to know about her anti-Obama bullshit.

I would find it hard to disagree with that statement. Nevertheless, the constitutionality of any specific legislation should not boil down to mere semantics.

Another consequence of calling this a "tax" is what happens if you don't pay? You can be put in jail for willfully not paying a tax. So it's possible that a person can be jailed for not buying insurance. Interesting.

And who is the administrator of this program? It's the IRS. The warm, compassionate IRS will be managing your health care.

We will see if the libs are as happy with this in 3 or 4 years, after the program is in full force.

Whirly, here is the reality.

Many small business's, such as mine, have to furnish a full benefit package to employs in order to keep them. Highy skilled craftsmen are not cheap. It does a business no good to devote years into training key personel only to have them leave for greener pastures the minute their skills allow.

Since we have to furnish health care to our employs, where is the downside to having the Government help out, especially since it is now mandated.

My accountant has reviewed this thouroughly, and in his opinion, we might be able to recoup as much as 60 percent of our health care cost through the various tax encentives and rebates that the government is offerring for the sole purpose of allowing businesses under 25 employs to furnish Health Care and not go broke doing it. At this time, our group policy is costing me about 120,000 a year. Now, in the grand scheme of things, that might not be much, but if I could recoup 60 percent, that is money in my pocket.

Where is the downside? Of course, it will be a subsidy, but I don't make the rules.

Saying half a dozen or six is semantics. Calling it a penalty is not the same as a tax and when challenged while they were trying to pass the bill they insisted it was NOT a tax. That is why I have a problem with the decision. If they had called it a tax the legislation would not have passed.

The eternal short vision. If you're not a conservative then you're socialist and if you're not a liberal then you're a fascist. There is definitely an abismal gap between leaving everything at the hands of corporations and being slaved into a socialist system. Polarizing and leveraging the people's ignorance with fear and false assumptions is way too deja vue and less and less people will buy on that crap. At the end of the day...the majority of the Americans voted for Obama and were looking for the shift. The birth certificate, the repeal health care, the Obama is a muslim what a waste of time, resources and (biting my tongue) talent.

you know that in 3-4 years when the program is in full force and everyone is paying more taxes and healthcare becomes bogged down in red tape - the liberals will somehow blame the republicans.

Jackie, you ask where is the downside. I'll tell you. The government is taking money from me to support your business. I think your business should stand on its own.

Stupid question, as usual, CBJ7. The amount of benefit Jackie receives from the government comes out of all our taxes, or our children's and grandchildren's taxes, since our government borrows so much. Or through a devalued dollar, if the money is simply printed.

I thought you understood things like this, CBJ7. I had forgotten how deep your inability to comprehend simple concepts goes.

I have said all along that the Republican alternative was to continue to allow the insurance company's to maintain control of health care in America! Otherwise, they would have crafted a plan of their own! The Republican Party should use this as an opportunity to seize the moment. They should accept the fact that the health care plan is now the law of the land and bring forth a comprehensive alternative rather than only playing defense. It has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread that they have offered no alternatives, other than keep what we have! And it is apparent, keeping what we had is no longer acceptable!

How do you know? You really think it would be harder to pass a tax increase on people who don't have health insurance than it would be to pass a law "forcing" people to buy health insurance or pay a tax?

Beyond that, if the right didn't call end of life counseling "death panels", or if they didn't call the law "a government takeover of healthcare", maybe the law would have passed by an even greater margin.

So it works both ways.
