Obama supports gay marriage
Just another reason to be a democrat. Imagine....thinking that everybody should be treated fairly regardless of sexual orientation.

I watched his interview and he seemed very genuine talking about why he changed his position on supporting people of the LGBT community. This makes history as the first president to ever support us.
I am very proud of President Obama to take the brave step forward and support the LGBT community. His record shows he has been consistent in regard to this like getting rid of the "Don't ask don't tell" and other such changes. President Obama wants our country to move forward and not backward.. again "Hope and Change" and he has delivered that.

Civil Union isn't discrimatory. There is no reason for the G&L community to be included in the definition of Marriage as being between a heterosexual couple (man and woman).

Three things: First,he's not changing his position, he's changing his stated position. You know as well as I that Obama has always supported gay marriage.
Second, why do you assume it will benefit him in the election? I doubt it changes things one way or the other. The bigoted gay-haters were never going to vote for Obama anyway....they're all repukes, teabaggers or conservabots. And, I suspect that most supporters of gay marriage were already in Obama's corner.
What about you COG? No opinion on the topic other than the usual cheap potshots? Shouldn't the government butt out and let gays enjoy all the legal benefits that are available to married heterosexual couples? Isn't that the right thing to do? Rather than advocate amending the Constitution to make sure that the 10 to 20 percent of the population that is gay can be treated unfairly lawfully? As Romney advocates per Ed Gillespie on MSNBC this morning. How do they sleep at night?

Oh, PUH-LEEZ! He wants it left up to the states. This is purely political. If North Carolina votes against gay marriage, according to what Obama said, he supports it.
Timmy, please pay attention. I've given my position on gay marriage numerous times. I think if two people want to get married, go ahead. I don't care if they're same sex or opposite sex.

There's no reason not to include them either....other than the inherent unfairness of not including them. Why should they be treated differently? And what consequences do you foresee if, god forbid, gays are allowed to get married? The end of the world as we know it? People marrying dogs? (I'll trot that bullshit out before you have a chance to)....the collapse of western civilization?
Seriously: what's the problem? You and the rest of the conservabots are against it because you're bigoted against gays. Everybody knows it, you just refuse to admit it.

Oh, it may be purely political but that doesn't change what I said: Obama supports gay marriage.
As for paying attention, believe it or not, I don't read all your posts.....

A May 7th story:
Paul Yandura, a political adviser to Lewis (Jonathan Lewis, the gay philanthropist and leading Democratic fundraiser, is one of many gay advocates who has been working behind the scenes to pressure Obama to change his mind), emails me [Greg Sargent] a statement: A number of gay and progressive donors, unsolicited, have indicated to us that they aren’t considering requests to donate to the Obama SuperPac because of the president’s refusal to the sign the order. And those are high-dollar asks, some in the seven digits. We have heard from at least half a dozen major gay and progressive donors that they stand united with us. There is still time for the President to do the right thing and sign this executive order, our great hope is that he does so immediately. Posted at 05:25 PM ET, 05/07/2012

Obama, backing gay marriage, on fundraising tour
Posted: May 10, 2012 2:06 AM CDT Updated: May 10, 2012 8:36 AM CDT
By JIM KUHNHENN
Associated Press
The president made his historical endorsement on the eve of a sold-out fundraiser Thursday evening at the Los Angeles home of movie star George Clooney.
The timing of the event is creating a blockbuster confluence of high celebrity, big money and committed activism. Hollywood is home to some of the most high-profile backers of gay marriage and the 150 donors who are paying $40,000 to attend Clooney's dinner Thursday night will no doubt feel newly invigorated by Obama's watershed announcement the day before.

I don't get why marriage just can't be "two people" in love. Why does it even need to be defined as anything further than that. Two people. Man woman, woman woman, man man, doesn't matter - two PEOPLE.
More on topic though, no president REALLY supports gay marriage - they just support whatever gets them votes. Obama also swore he wasn't going to crack down on a controversial medication and yet has done more against said medication than Bush (who was more against it, for lack of a better term). So yeah.
