We all enjoy some spontaneous vocal response from our partner during sex. It adds to the atmosphere and is a clear indication that he or she is having a good time.
However, things can get out of hand when the vocal level is too high. Take the case several years ago of
Caroline and Steve Cartwright of the town of Washington, south of Newcastle, in England. After neighbors, passers-by and even the postman complained about their excessively noisy love-making, they have been ordered by the Town Court to refrain from "shouting, screaming or vocalization at such a level as to be a statutory nuisance."
During the trial, a 10-minute recording of their sex sessions was played out in court. The local council set up special equipment in a next-door neighbor's flat and recorded noise levels of between 30 to 40 decibels, peaking at 47. The romps typically started at midnight and lasted several hours almost every night, the judge heard. The neighbor said, "It's just quite unnatural. The noise sounds like they are both in considerable pain." Another witness called the sounds "hysterical, almost continuous, just screaming."
So, unless you do it on a desert island, please hold down your vocal ecstasy.
