Really Rooster? St. Christopher came to NY and hogtied you till you yelled Uncle ? Now we know why the mods are so ornery. They don't really want the job just forced into it.

Not real sure if this is "friendly fire" or not ....... but I'll clarify this and a few other things I said too...

So again, I did not seek the position of Moderator. Never really considered it, never even told anyone I would be interested in it. I just like the board and figured I would help out when I was asked to.

As to JB's point about using the "Ignore" button on GP.... we generally do. And we do on a lot of things. It is tough when things get so personal sometimes, though. Again, we hate the attitude of "you vs. us." But like jymie says, you learn to deal with that over time. But it doesn't mean I will be a puss and let someone walk on me either.

And when I say that "90 percent of what we do is stuff you never see," I don't mean things like infractions, bans, etc. I'm talking about the mundane stuff that makes the board work - approving / correcting reviews, looking up Provider profiles, helping with account problems, etc. Boring shit, in general.

The debate about whether to publicize reasons for bans and infractions will rage on, no doubt. There really is no smoking gun there. The "charity" issue was a very special case. And GP's situation..... it's all out there. He chose to act the way he did and the actions taken against him were explained too. What else is there? It just distracts from the overall mission of the forum.

So.. in that spirit... check THIS babe out:

Man, I might have butted heads with a Texas boy or two, but I envy the hell out of those dudes!

FWIW, I'm glad to have the five moderators we have now. I remember rooster over the longest time just because that's how my memory works. I thought then, I think now, that it was good to give him the power.

The "us v. them" thing may be as unavoidable as gravity unless you guys had two handles. One to continue to be boardtards (sorry) and the other to be boardpricks.

It is duplicitous but at least it would keep folks from being able to isolate you as targets.

The 60 day thing felt too tough to me by a factor of ten but I'm not one of the people having to run around the board being isolated and targeted for jabs.

In short, while I think you guys blew this one tactically, I don't think I can complain much, particularly if you reduced the ban substantially.

I have to agree with what has been said by my fellow mods on this issue with GP. I myself prefer to send , and have done this already,a PM to a member if there is an issue that I want to have a respectful dialog with. As an owner of a small business for over 35 years, I have always tried to NEVER confront an employee in front of other employees.

When I saw that there was a shortage of mods in the Upstate NY area, I did express my interest in becoming a mod first to the existing mods, and then to the owners in Texas, who interviewed me and made the final decision. I have no personal agenda here. I was just a member who enjoys this lifestyle and enjoys participating on this site.
I remember when I first joined as a member, I commented to GP and OSD about their high numbers of posts and is that all they have to do is spend hours on this board commenting on everything in site ! lol. I also said that I will post comments ONLY when I have something of value to add and not just to see how high I can get my post count. I also had some issues as a member about trying to be civil with each other- Yes we can disagree with each other , but I believed then and I still do now , that there is no reason to go into attack mode against other members or mods. I welcome all comments and opinions, but don't beat me over the head constantly with your negativity. Diversity is great on this site and in life.

Yes, I am also still learning about the duties of a mod. Bear with me please. My strong point is that I believe that I am a very fair man in my thinking and can usually see both sides to an issue.

I do not watch TV much. Maybe a game or two on the weekends. And if the game is on local TV by airwaves. Well the TV is next to the display. The only show I will sit and watch is "History Detective". So this is my TV. I rather flirt with a provider. or rant with anyone

[This contentious thread might benefit from a minor hijack.]

"History Detectives" on PBS is one of my favorite TV shows too!

Rooster no "fire" intended. Just a lame ass attempt at some sorely needed levity. I don't know about the rest of you but with the new year close at hand I plan on leaving this joyful banter behind and concentrating on enjoying the company of my ATF's and searching out some new encounters. Hope every one here has a Happy New Year. And if you party this weekend, do it safe. Use designated drivers.

NP, Fly.

And I too hope you ALL have a Happy New Year!

(mine would be happier if I could spend it in Texas!)
