Does anyone think women have a little advantage because they are less impulsive? I watch these kittens I have, and yes both genders are impulsive, but the boys are extremely impulsive. I think being more level headed can make someone smarter.

Here's the thing...

No, what I'm saying is that men take a part-by-part approach and women a holistic approach. A man approaches every problem from individual parts which he puts together one by one until he arrives at a whole. A woman is good at taking a collection of parts that may not even seem to match in a man's mind, then looking at those parts and saying "where have I seen this before"? That's why men are better at innovation; the male brain is better at going into the undiscovered country "where no man has gone before" as long as the facts are there. But the female brain is better at making intuitive leaps based upon scant facts whose like she or any of her friends or family have seen before. Hence, the "eyes in the back of her head" syndrome; your wife yells at you for doing something you did actually do, but you can't figure out how she knows you did it. It's because she picked up on scattered pieces of the picture that resemble parts of behavioral patterns she's encountered in the past.
Incidentally, this difference in thinking explains the wunderkind syndrome in men; often a genius will accomplish some groundbreaking achievement when he's fairly young (twenties or thirties), then spend the rest of his life unable to match that innovative peak because now he's psychologically unable to risk his reputation by making the same sort of leaps he made when he had nothing to lose. But a wise woman just keeps getting wiser (unless she goes senile) because as her experiences accumulate, her pool of available cognitive models continues to grow and thus, though she isn't really "smarter" in an absolute sense, her intuition has more examples to draw upon.

Broad View of Successful Life
The question is intended to take a very broad view of the issue.
For example, we can safely say that high school seniors as a group are smarter than the kids in first grade and college graduates are smarter than high school seniors.
Nor is the question comparing apples to oranges as someone suggested. We are comparing human beings to human beings only of opposite sex.
Someone else mentioned that women commit less crimes and I think that is an important distinction between the sexes.
Prison population has on average about 7 times more males than females and I think that is both sad and significant.
Overall the question has to do with who is better equipped in a broad sense to solve problems and to have a more successful life, men or women?
I think everyone can agree that people in prison are not living successful lives and by that measure alone, women are ahead of men 7 to 1.
. . .Others could argue that men hold more positions of power, but that is not a convincing argument to me. Saddam Hussein long held power in Iraq, but not because he was smarter, just more ruthless.

I just voted in this poll and again broke the tie between men and women... on the side of women.
I make this evaluation because as I get older, the women get smarter and I keep getting dumber...
In other words...what AngelOK said in post #51!

Too Simplistic
You have a valid point, but that is really too simplistic to provide a complete picture.
For example, a man who is well off can select the car he wants to drive provided that he can pay for it, but that does make the car smarter than he is.
. . . Anyway, you can quit sucking up to SNL. She's letting this thing go to her head as it is!
