About 10 years ago in Dallas a Hispanic teacher ran for congress on the Democratic ticket. He was a candidate of the people, had very little financing so he drove his pickup and personally campaigned anywhere and anytime. He won his primary substantially but just missed getting the "designated percentage" to get a outright win in the Party. So he had to conduct a "run-off' against his well-financed opponent, and lost. The people wanted the candidate they had chosen, the Party wanted the candidate they had spent the money on, and the Party got what they wanted.
