Default Whiners, freeloaders, parasites, and bums; oh my!

The governments of the world have run out of other people's money and now they have to cut back. The people who have been sucking at the government teat are very upset from Wisconsin, Ohio, Italy, Greece, Portugal, and now England. Led by leftists, socialists, and international communists they march and demand more money from us. I like to think that the people on this site work for a living whether they are to the right or to the left. What say you about the freeloaders?

You know I shouldn't have to say this but some people are simple minded. I'm not talking about cops, firemen, or hard working, successful school teachers.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over lousy fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world’s great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to Complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage."

This quote has been attributed to several people, Alexander Tytler, Alexis de Toqueville, to name a couple. In any event, it appears to be prophetic.

I'm neither left nor right. I would just like to see the Constitution respected again.

And this is from To Sail Beyond the Sunset by Robert Heinlein (a bit of a prophet in many areas).
Quote:
"A perfect democracy, a 'warm body' democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally has no internal feedback for self correction. It depends solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of citizens...which is opposed by the folly and lack of self-restraint of other citizens. What is supposed to happen in a democracy is that each sovereign citizen will always vote in the public interest for the safety and welfare of all. But what does happen is that he votes his own self-interest as he sees it...which for the majority translates as 'Bread and Circuses'
"Bread and Circuses is the cancer of democracy, the fatal disease for which there is no cure. Democracy often works beautifully at first. But once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader--the barbarians enter Rome."

Why shouldn't cops and firemen, or any government employee for that matter, not be considered as sucking at the teat of government in some capacity?

I think we're somewhere between dependence and bondage.

I agree, my concern is what happens when we get back to spiritual faith.

Spiritual faith is a wonderful condition, but too often the term is used to describe religion. Hyper-religiosity is a mark of the dependency and bondage parts of the cycle. We see this in the Islamic extremists, and to a lesser degree evangelical Christianity. Hmmm . . . I wonder what characteristics a Buddhist or Taoist extremist might have?

BTW, I was in Pizza Hut and Buddha himself was at the next table. The waitress asked for his order, and Buddha replied, "Make me one with everything."

Freeloaders? Most of you are freeloaders. You let single childless people living in apartments; pay for schools for your kids, pay your interest on your home loan, pay a share of your property taxes as sales taxes, and pay for each tax credit per child on your income taxes.

The wealthy are the biggest freeloaders of all! Just ask John Stossel.

I don't think anyone has a problem paying the salaries of cops, firemen, teachers or even IRS agents who are compensated for performing a service. What I don't like is paying for the vast majority of their retirement plans and health care benefits.

I see faith as the opposite of logic, and that is what concerns me. How would you define positive "spiritual faith"?

Lakecat, that's usually part of the compensation package that was negotiated. Are you saying that Republicans are so bad at business negotiation that they daren't even risk sitting at the table?

Meanwhile, these new Republican governors are giving away millions to big businesses. They PREACH against freeloaders while they give huge tax breaks to businesses that don't need them. Who pays the difference? The taxpayer does!

These freeloader businesses leach off of states, shop for the best deals, and play states against each other. The states are foolish enough to oblige.

If states were smart, they'd band together and lock out these predatory businesses. (Don't like the business taxes in my state? Move! And don't think you can move to a state that's a member of my compact. You'll also be barred from this state for the next 50 years if you leave.)

After spiritual faith comes courage, then liberty. Liberty is my religion. I call a Jihad on tyrants, statists, and the IRS.

Well, if the cops have enough resources to try and prevent two consenting adults from exchanging money for sex, then they are obviously over-funded. Also, let me get this straight...we pay for the police so that they can write us bullshit tickets for stupid shit, and we're supposed to worship them as well? When those blue lights show up in your rearview mirror, do you really feel safer? Let's not forget the current militarization of the police, and their complete disregard for the Constitution. I used to look up to the police, but they have lost a lot of credibility with me. At this point, I can only assume that it would take someone who is a complete fool, or outright morally bankrupt, to join a police force. Where the hell are the so-called good cops to out the bad apples? *crickets* Other than being a whore-monger, legally speaking, I'm as clean as a preachers sheets, so don't have any personal experiences with the police which have colored my view. I simply see them for what they are: enforcers for a government that is increasingly falling into the grip of petty tyranny.

Also, the IRS can burn in hell, and should be abolished.

Default Dependency

Ok Is it fair to say GE for one example takes advantage of the rules and gets the benefits but none of the costs?

Wonder how many tax lawyers and lobbyists they have on payroll?

GE is all powerful and ergo my God
