Default MAGA take note. This is your future.

Seems like Vance's visit didn't do shit. Might have even hurt him.

Hungary election live: Viktor Orbán concedes defeat in Hungarian election after 16 years in power
https://www.theguardian.com/world/li...e-news-updates

https://apnews.com/article/hungary-e...3cd18bd36254ab

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán conceded defeat on Sunday after what he called a ″painful″ election result, ending 16 years in power for a powerful figure in the far-right movement allied with U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Partial official results show opposition leader Peter Magyar’s party dominating the vote, in a bombshell election result with repercussions around Europe and beyond. ‘’Thank you, Hungary!’' Magyar posted on X, as thousands of his supporters thronged the banks of the Danube in Budapest.

Across town, Orban told his followers that “I congratulated the victorious party.’'

“We are going to serve the Hungarian nation and our homeland from opposition as well,’' he said.

With 60% of the vote counted, Magyar’s Tisza party had more than 52% support to 38% for Orbán’s governing Fidesz party. That proportion will change as more votes are counted.

It’s a major blow for Orbán, the European Union’s longest-serving leader and one of its biggest antagonists, who has traveled a long road from his early days as a liberal, anti-Soviet firebrand to the Russia-friendly nationalist admired today by the global far-right.

The parties of both Orbán and Magyar said they had received reports of electoral violations, suggesting some results could be disputed by both sides.

And during that time he and his party did irreparable harm to the institutions that power the country. Just like they are doing in our country.

Too bad there are no free and clear elections in Russia, China, or North Korea.

Looks like the opposition may have gained a super majority, so they can get to unfucking things right away. Hopefully along with some jail time for all of the current politicos that played into the corruption.

... Good for Hungary! ... MORE immigrants on the way there...

As I always say - "You get the government that you surely deserve"...

Not sure how or why you believe that election result hurts the MAGAS.

Sounds as though you aren't up to speed on things. All those "insiders" must be letting you down. No problem - Let me fill you in on what went down.

Viktor Orbán, Trump’s closest European friend, the man JD Vance flew to Hungary to endorse in person only a few days ago, the role model for MAGA-style governance that Trump keeps praising — just got hammered in the Hungarian election today. In a landslide victory.

Magyar Peter’s Tisza Party is expected to capture a two-thirds supermajority. Highest voter turnout ever — 77.8%, which is an all-time record in Hungary since the country transitioned away from Communism.

The Hungarian people just delivered a resounding vote against the very model MAGA has been putting forward as the ultimate example of illiberal nationalist governance. That’s why it’s prophetic, Salty. That’s why it matters.

Still not sure how this hurts the MAGAs? If not, that's ok. JUST WAIT.

GAWD! I hope so.

Voters in Hungary must present a valid photo ID to vote, such as a national ID card, passport, or Hungarian-issued driver’s license.

Seems we should be just like them in national elections!

Pass the Save ACT!

Wow! That's super clever of you. A post about Hungary kicking back against authoritarian nationalism leads you straight to voter ID.

Just to clarify, Hungary's voter ID setup actually works because they give every citizen a free national ID card automatically — no hassle, no office visits, no paperwork chase, no fees, no waiting weeks. The government brings it right to you.

Totally sensible system. But it's the polar opposite of the SAVE Act push here, which demands passports or birth certificates that cost money and take weeks to obtain, with zero free universal ID option.

If you want the US to copy Hungary's voter ID exactly, step one is free national IDs for citizens. You're good with that, right? I mean, it would be like Hungary.

Wait! So... your main objection to a national US voter ID requirement is you think the COST is prohibitive?

Here in Pennsylvania, there is a one-time fee of $30 to obtain a REAL ID. I plan to upgrade my drivers license to REAL ID status at my next renwal date. Until then, I'm using my passport to fly domestically.

So you think a $30 fee is prohibitive? Why? Do you view it as akin to a poll tax or something?

Fyi - you do know 60% of Democrats are in favor of voter ID requirements, right?

Senator Chucky Schumer tells us voter ID laws are the contemporary equivalent of racist "Jim Crow" laws.

Question - why does Chucky Schumer keep insulting 60% of his fellow Democrats by calling them racist? That's not very nice. Or smart.

Now let's get back on topic, shall we? You hate something called "MAGA" and this is a troll thread.

I really don't give a fuck who won the Hungarian elections. I don't think it's appropriate for US officials overtly to seek to sway foreign elections - whether it's Vance campaigning for Orban or Obama campaigning against Netanyahu or Brexit. Fair enough?

I think the OP is trying to push home the idea that the midterms are going to swing fairly heavily towards the democratic party. If you want to call that a troll thread I won’t argue the point.

I would however argue for a free national ID that could be used for the same purpose as REAL ID. Even 30 dollars is too much to charge for the ability to vote in my opinion.

There is a difference between a REAL ID and the SAVE act requirement for proof of citizenship. REAL ID doesn’t require proof of citizenship it merely sets a standard for the information on the ID.

From the Wiki page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REAL_ID_Act
Enacted in response to the September 11 attacks, the provisions regarding identification documents were originally intended to take effect in 2008, but enforcement was repeatedly delayed due to widespread opposition and refusal by many state governments to implement them. Eventually states began to comply in 2012, and enforcement based on the issuing state or territory began from 2014 to 2018 depending on the facility. After numerous extensions, by 2020, all states were certified as compliant, and by 2024, all territories were certified. Enforcement based on the identification documents began on May 7, 2025, and is scheduled to be implemented in phases until complete enforcement begins on May 5, 2027.
