Tyler Kennedy, who is an expert on hockey, and a Canadian, said on the Fan that team USA was a better constructed team and deserved to win.

A typical lib can’t afford hockey. A nice steak before, parking, 2 tickets, couple brews, will set you back at least $500.

Lol. That's adorable. I thought libs were the "elites", weren't they? At least they were a little while ago.
First of all, there are only like 20 cities in the entire country that give a flying fuck about hockey. Your product has to be interesting enough for people to buy into it.
"Typical libs" can afford a lot more than their "typical" counterparts.
It's definitely not an affordability issue. It's more of a "hockey is like the 5th most popular sport in America" issue.

.... Crikey! ... I can't even afford THAT!
And I ain't a liberal.
... But I CAN afford to take the tram in from the South Hills,
sit way up in "the attic" and 'ave a slice o' pizza and
a beer or two ... ...
... And I surely agree-with You and Bambino.
Maybe "on paper" Canada had the better side, and maybe
they might win the Final there IF Crosby was playing...
... BUT - you don't play the match on paper, or by
video game --- it's out on the ice! ...
And as Bambino mentioned: ... The scoreboard shows the WINNER!
And ya DON'T criticize the extra-time rules after you LOSE,
when you were aware of the rules in-advance.
That's what sore-sports do...
... Glad The USA Won! ... ...

“NHL ticket prices have increased significantly over the years, with average prices for regular-season games ranging from about $40 to $300, depending on the seat location and demand. Many fans find these prices challenging, especially as teams continue to test higher pricing strategies.”

“Yes, interest in hockey is on the rise in the USA, with record membership numbers reported for youth hockey and significant growth in female participation. The sport is gaining popularity, especially in non-traditional markets, reflecting a broader trend of increasing engagement in hockey.”
“The men's USA/Canada gold medal hockey game drew over 27 million viewers in the United States, making it one of the most-watched hockey telecasts in recent history. This game was particularly significant as it marked the first Olympic gold for the U.S. men's hockey team since 1980.“

Yes, and the price of everything else has gone up, too. No surprise there. It's still not an affordability issue. It's that the overwhelming majority of Americans don't care about hockey.
I'm glad the USA won gold. Who isn't? They win a lot more often now that they allow pros to play in the Olympics, of course.
But most of those 27 million people were watching simply because it was the Olympics. The Stanley Cup final last year didn't even net 10% of that number. It was the Olympics, not the sport of hockey, that netted those numbers.

Your wrong. It depends on where you live. The Penguins are the second most popular franchise in Pittsburgh and been so for years. Youth hockey has exploded here. Two members of the Olympic team are from this area. North Catholic is developing an elite program to compete with the powerhouse Catholic Schools in Minnesota and Boston. Which are hotbeds for hockey. Some of the best young players in the world train at the Lemieux Center in Cranberry. There are many parts of the world where Hockey is #1. Canada, Russia and some Nordic countries. Czech Republic too. Soccer is the #1sport in the world. I’d rather stick needles in my eyes than watch a game. For my money, hockey is the best game to watch live. The speed and athleticism is unmatched in team sports. 10% of the US population watched the USA win the gold. It started at 8am Sunday morning. That’s impressive. I watched the whole game. It was far better than the Super Bowl

More people tuned into the gold medal game than any other event at the Olympics. They tuned in because it was hockey.
“Yes, the men's gold medal hockey game was the most-watched moment of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, with 8.7 million viewers in Canada and significant viewership in the U.S. as well. This event highlighted Team USA's thrilling overtime victory over Canada.”
CBC NBCUniversal
“The most popular sport in the world is soccer (football), with approximately 3.5 billion fans globally. Other popular sports include cricket with 2.5 billion fans, and hockey with around 2 billion fans.”

All well and good, but only 2.5 million watched the Stanley Cup final last year. The extra 24.5 million watched the Olympic hockey game because it was the Olympics, not because it was hockey.
Run along now.

You can run, if you can. They watched it because they were the best hockey players in the world. It was a far lager audience than any Olympic event this year. Because it was hockey. Not Skiing, bobsledding, figure skating or Curling. Hockey is a very popular sport. Which you don’t seem to understand. No suprise.
You’re just butt hurt because the USA won, and the team is patriotic and attending the SOTU. Limp along now.

Curling is the only Winter Olypmic sport that matters, to be honest.
Thank you for bringing it up. Was heartbroken the U.S. team didn't get the gold.
