Default Shutdowns Are Great Reminders of How Little Government We Need

The vast majority of the federal bureaucracy could disappear overnight and most of us wouldn't notice. A point that Republicans need to learn how to make when arguing with Democrats is that the government is not inherently good. It shouldn't have any sacred place in any discussion.

in the words of Thomas Jefferson, "That government which governs least, governs best."

I’ve not had any inconveniences whatsoever due to the government “shutdown”, even having federal healthcare and retirement benefits.

Actually, we don't need a Federal Government. They waste money, time and resources. Individual states can and do run themselves. The only thing that might be of value Federally is the Military.

You people above have no idea how much the government does for you on an everyday basis. You have no idea of how many people who are living off credit or borrowing money during this just so some gov't services can function. Lack of gov't services have cost lives.(camp mystic...) live in your bubble of pickup trucks and your mother-in-law supporting you as you run around cheating ...take the mirror off the wall and look around a bit.

Maybe you are dependent on the govt. but the govt is dependent on my taxes. I’m not dependent on the govt.

The gov't is dependent on our tax dollars to do things like shut our border down and buildup our military. If everybody stopped paying taxes, what do you think would happen? I do not think your mother in law's money will save you...or your truck...or your guns...now call Michael Berry and tell him what i just said.

The US laid the foundations of the most powerful country to have ever existed, before income tax was even considered.

My pickup was > 2x what I paid for our first house, and that was showing restraint on the trim level I ~really~ wanted.

Imma good wid dat. Shouldn't cost much at that. Besides, that is a Primary function of our Federal government, which as you may remember; took some 85 Federalist papers and a Bill of Rights to convince the public that some things were necessary from a small, tiny even, Federal government.

Ponderous point, but I think the real question is: what won't happen. Like will the Left-Wing nuts, pay out of their own pockets, to all the hands that are extending? Things like Color revolutions across the pond or here, Federal lawfare against political enemies, circumcisions in Africa, Sesame Street in Afghanistan, Trans musicals in Columbia, etc., etc.

During the Gingrich era shut down in the 1990s, I worked at a VA hospital doing a special sort of X-ray imaging. When the "non-essential" employees were sent home, I was surprised to see just how many there were . . .its a hospital right?

So many folks were there for some function that did not impact patient care . . .

How many others in other agencies do not also have a direct impact on the focus of their agency?

How many whole agencies are equally as superfluous ?

Next time you fly somewhere, or perhaps drive to Galveston for jeep weekend, keep in mind what allowed it to happen safely...it is funny how everybody knew in advance how much rain Hurricane Harvey was going to dump on Houston days in advance...but after elon was done making non-essential cuts, the hill country was caught off-guard. I voted for Trump 3 times. Open your eyes to the fact he is not right about everything. Also, before you go quoting Jefferson, take into account this is a much different country and much different world than when they were running things.

There were people on duty the real issue is that NOBODY made the decision to alert everyone to evacuate. Tornado sirens exist, but aren't used to warn of flooding either. The fact that you think that people died in the Hill country because of DOGE cuts tells me you get your news from the mainstream media and you don't know anything OTHER than what leftists want you to know. So your opinions are ill informed like most leftsists

Sure he makes mistakes... great that you voted for him three times... but you are still ill informed.

Ah yes the old "living Constitution" bullshit you were taught in school as a boomer. The internet didn't exist then either... should we just assume that you SHOULD NOT have the liberty of speech online then? The true genius of the Founders was their understanding of the corrupt nature of man. They knew men would be corrupt and thus the govt. would be corrupted. They set up the govt. so that mans self interest and the competing interests and branches of the government would work to restrain the corruption. But the best way to restrain corruption, is to keep the govt. as tiny as possible. It is a necessary EVIL... not a force for ONLY good.
