Trump's H-1B proclamation was a perfect example of poor messaging
Not sure who paid attention, but my man Donnyboy made some H-1B tweaks on Friday.
The language of the order was murky. Lutnick, who was with him in the room, said multiple times it would be an annual fee. When people reported that and took it at face value... it was called fake news despite coming coming from the administration. And then the admin started stepping all over the messaging Sat morning until they provided clarification Sat night before Sun implementation.
Ultimately, after companies panicked and sought quick clarification due to the quick implementation of the order, we the people were given further guidance which didn't sound like what was discussed on Friday. This is after sowing panic among H-1B's who were traveling abroad for legitimate purposes like vacation or business.
Watching this rollout was like watching the Keystone Cops in action.
And now, next year, the H-1B will cost $100k before you even get into the cost of salary and benefits.
If we go back to the interestingly botched Hyundai sting and Trump's backtrack and failed attempt to get those workers to stay you will see that there's now another reason for foreign-owned companies to reconsider U.S. investments because it will cost an extra $100k per head to secure temporary work authorization to help restore the bench of tech skills domestically.
Certainly will be interesting to see how this administration shoots itself in the foot with half-assed messaging and bad policy next.

I'm fairly sure- that if it doesn't have dollars attached to it, Trump isn't interested in it. Certainly not for doing the right thing, for the sake of doing it. He's gotta see a business case, and literally a mechanism to put his hand into the process, (in order to get a few dollars in the glass booth) while the patrons who play the game are forced to put out more and more, and get less and less.
Can anyone think of something Trump did to just help the country vs. himself. I know he ran on border issues and we can agree on that is a better thing- but on deportations, or tariffs or anything else, he's only hurt innocent people from kids, farmers and the local manufacturers, and retailers. He's a god damned disgrace.

And yet, India, is sending an emergency delegation to the US.
China and India are enemies that share a mutual interest, Russia.
Smart countries are seeing the issues with Russia in the next decade, and Russias lack of bodies to keep the system running.
An uneasy partnership at best.

Even Sloppy Steve Bannon gets it
Quote:
BANNON: Lutnick said an H1B costs $100K/yr, $600K total. Impossible. If true, you’d have to shut the program down. Levitt later confirmed it’s just $100K upfront. Then Lutnick said it was for renewals, wrong again. You’re the Sec. of Commerce. These aren’t footnote details. This is the deal. You’re supposed to be a deal guy, yet you gave not just wrong info but patently false info.

The H-1 program helps big companies get cheaper labor.
I would think people interested in restoring the middle class would want US workers to be the priority when it comes to hiring.
So do you want to support big business or the middle class?

It helps some do that. Some pay some pretty high wages. That said it's something thar requires balance between the business and the middle with an and, not an or. Not a binary choice.
How would you grade Trump and Lutnick on how this was communicated on Friday?
Bannon gives Lutnick an F-

To be 100% honest I’ve paid zero attention to the detailed messaging.
What I know better than most is that the H1 program is used more for corporate profits vs hard to find skill sets. And it needs a makeover.
Lift up the middle class I say.

I can tell. The reality is that letting Lutnick talk about details like this is usually a bad call.
He needs replaced. Soon.
