So some guy I've never heard of gets killed, Jimmy Kimmel makes a stupid statement about the killer's motives, and this becomes some huge political issue. What am I missing?

The man is a comedian. If you don’t like his jokes don’t watch his show.
But when the government, via threats from the FCC commissioner and the President of the United States, cause speech to be censored because they don’t like what is being said then it becomes a huge problem.
I don’t understand how anyone can see it any other way.
The government should not have the power to shut down my business because they don’t like what I say about them.

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
Where's the joke?

The joke came next and was aimed directly at Trump. The statement about Charlie Kirk was the setup.

We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during the monologue.
“In between the finger pointing there was grieving. On Friday the White House flew the flags at half-staff which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this.”
The show then cut to a reporter asking Trump how he was dealing with Kirk’s death and the president pivoting to talking about the new ballroom being built at the White House.
“He’s at the fourth stage of grief, construction,” Kimmel quipped. “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone they called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish.”
Kimmel also showed a different clip of Trump on Fox News changing the subject about Kirk’s death to the ballroom.

I've seen the clip. No one who is important to you gets a pause that short before segwaying into a completely unrelated topic

Ultimately the fact that ABCs affiliates were going to cancel Mr. Hate speech in 25 percent of the country PLUS a reminder from the powers that be that the lies he was perpetulating were not Kosher led his bosses to an obvious solution, which I have stated multiple times.
Can Mr hate speech, grease the wheels, and move along.
If you think simply, this, equals that, you are wrong, thats Checkers.
Understanding the layers and where each choice matters, is Chess.

Saying "You have a very nice house, it would be a shame if it burned down" can be construed as a threat.
"I noticed your house is made from wood" isnt.
The nuances of the law matter.

It does matter.
Not only did Kimmel lie but it was offensive to MAGA.
Now have Kimmel do the exact same thing about George Floyd, lie, or joke if that is your interpretation, that the left murdered George.
You’d chuckle about that one right? So would the others on the board trying to minimize Kimmel’s hypocrisy?
I hope Kimmel never works in the business again for his slander.

Was Kimmel out of line? Maybe, but nothing more than the same finger pointing from Jesse waters or guttfield. Point is, nobody said those two should be cancelled. Kimmel just pointed out the absurdity of the claim, and that old Trumpy really pivoted to dumbass ballrooms faster than the weather changes in Alaska

Kimmel didn't lie; all you got to do is read what the mega crowd said on here, to know he was telling the truth
