I hate to even post this in case Bob Nutting is a fellow monger and I might be giving him ideas, but being highly paid and being highly talented are not the same thing. The Steelers defense is wxhibit A, especially a certain pass rusher who just had to be the top paid non-QB who just extended his sack less game streak to 6 (IIRC). When you make the money he does, you should at least be in the conversation for defensive player of the year. Right now he’s nowhere close to even being an afterthought for that honor.

Yep…Watt has been silent. Our lines on both sides stink. Our linebackers are average. Highsmith should be doing something other than getting hurt.
Could anybody point to one facet of this team that we can build around??!!

I just don’t like Tomlins defensive scheme nor his players to show up to game one looking like they want to beat people up. That’s the old Steelers. Not this.
We use to blitz from all angles. It wouldn’t hurt to go back to that. Bring Ramsey! Bring a middle linebacker! Disguise what we’re doing. Too predictable on both sides.

Ramsey is 30 years old and in his tenth season. The current team isn’t going anywhere and next year they’ll likely be breaking in a rookie QB. It’s probably going to be another two years until they are remotely ready to contend - in addition to QB they probably need to upgrade LB, OT, and WR in the next couple of drafts. Ramsey will be in year 12 and 32 years old at a position that requires speed. Will he really have anything left at that point?

You’re right about needing LB and OT…the shame is we’ve already spent recent high draft picks at OT and big money on linebackers.
This isn’t all on Khan in my opinion. At what point is the head coach held accountable?

Gentlemen this is getting old.
The thread is strictly about the Steelers and there should be zero political discussions
Let’s keep this one on track

He's called "Teflon Tomlin" for a reason. Don't forget he's never had a losing season.
Rooney won't pay him to not coach, so he is here for the remainder of his contract at least.
They would also be wise to expand they're coaching staff. They have the smallest in the NFL at 19. Is this Rooney being cheap or Tomlin wanting to keep it small and easier to control? I don't know.
Here's a quote from Tomlin in 2023.
“I’d rather overwork them than underwork them, you know what I mean?” he said. “I think there’s benefit in small numbers. It’s easier to keep the group coordinated and on accord, to have that one voice that is critical and culture-building. So small is better for me, but you’d better have enough to get the job done and I realize that we’re probably on the smaller side as far as staffing goes but that’s the agenda for us.”

I sometimes wonder if Rooney is cheap enough to not pay assistant coaches the kind of money that it takes to get quality assistants but I keep going back to the fact that he inherited Dick Lebeou and Arians. But that was his dad still I think.
If that is true, it’s ridiculously cheap. Love to see a local media guy have the balls to ask Rooney that question.
Am I the only one who thinks our local media is a bunch of pussies! The local ESPN girl (can’t think of her name) is the only one that asks Tomlin the real questions.

dont think it has anything to do with being cheap. imho, its tomlin.his team his control, only wants so many coaches around
everyone know its his defense. if its sucks, its on him. if it becomes great, give him the glory but it is tomlins team, art is just a bobblehead

Well we won. They out gained us almost 2 to 1 and had 5 turnovers. And it was still close!!
A classic ugly Tomlin win. But there’s no style points.

... As I watch this season-meet unfold, it's getting rather
painfully obvious that the Steelers DO need Ramsey.
... Chef Gordon Ramsey - because their defence is COOKED!
... NOT gonna beat the GOOD sides, Ravens and what-not.
The Vikings will give the Steelers "D" a lot of PROBLEMS
next week in Dublin.
... Now maybe THAT will be enough to get Artie Rooney's
Irish up - and he'll force some changes.
... But, most likely - Maybe NOT. ...
