Why does freedom of speech only work one way here, nobody should be fired for speaking their thoughts or Charlie wouldn't have mattered

So what does everyone here think irrespective of any particular situation? Should people get be able to get fired for expressing political views? Why or hy not and when?

It happens all the time. Take Tom Hanks recent cancellation at West Point as an example. You don’t think that was due to his political views. It’s at least more reasonable when a private company does it rather than the government. But in our country people get fired for stupider things than politics every day.

Donald Trump took to social media to celebrate U.S. Military Academy's decision to cancel an event that was set to honor Tom Hanks in late September

The Forrest Gump star was tapped to receive the 2025 Sylvanus Thayer Award on Sept. 25, but the ceremony was canceled over the weekend so West Point could "focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win as officers"

"Important move! We don’t need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!" Trump said in a Monday Truth Social post

If they’re radical views like celebrating someone’s death, that can damage one’s business, absolutely. The last thing an employer wants is customers who won’t patronize them because a wackjob is working there. Office Depot just did exactly that and will likely INCREASE their customer base for being a principled company. Good for them.

They are not being fired for their political views, but for the fact that they were celebrating the assassination. They were allowed their freedom of speech but seem to forget that there can be consequences or thought they were a "protected" class.

Most companies these days watch their employee's social media as they are a reflection on the company.

I would also endorse the firing of Fox host Brian Kilmeade for saying we should kill the mentally ill homeless.

I'm inclined to agree. An employer has the right to decide if they want someone employed after expressing certain views, regardless of the views.

I do also find it interesting that many, on both sides, seem to pick and choose when they are ok with someone being fired for they they said.

Here's the simple fact. Charlie Kirk was murdered for holding opinions that are FAR more moderate than mine. The demtards celebrated his execution... so that means they'd celebrate mine.

How likely do you think reconciliation is that ALL of us Conservatives understand this?

If your views represented a significant majority of the republican party then you’re correct, Reconciliation might never happen. However I don’t think that your views represent the majority of Americans. Just like I don’t think that far left liberal ideas represent the majority of the democrats.

Sooner or later the people in the middle will hopefully put the good of the country over partisan politics.

What would Charlie say about that?

I can see firing someone if it violates the TOS of their employer.
But donny also says their should be more freedom of speech in this country.

...no matter the consequences of what is said and by who.

Can we say maggies are hypocrites?
If anything extremely biased since they will practically talk down any libby.

Actually in most states, an employer can fire you for anything and don't need a reason to fire you except for the following they can't fire you for: discrimination based on race, gender, or age, or for illegal retaliation

100% true. But that doesn’t stop dipshits on the internet from being butthurt about it.
