In and near the Galleria area, I see so very many cross-dressers, the past few years, perhaps because the Panic-Demic’s masking mandates made it socially acceptable to wear masks in public, encouraging many to finally start making the metamorphosis. None of them seem to give off any type of “provider” vibe, however.

Now that I think about it, Houston became quite un-friendly to trans providers about 2004, when Harold Hurt became the police chief; an outsider hired to “clean up the town.” (I had to google the years of his “chieftainship.”) Until then, it was quite common to see trans folks, in public, who very much did give off a provider vibe, shopping at stores in and near the Galleria. The Montrose area, a few miles closer, along Westheimer, to “Midtown,” was the more gay/trans area, but, hanging out there was not my cup of tea. (We used to live in the Upper Kirby District, half-way between the Galleria and Midtown.)

When the trans folks seemed to disappear, about twenty years ago, the local word was that they were all moving to Dallas. So, the author of the original post may find the trans scene in Dallas to be much better than Houston’s, perhaps?
