Eggs in 2025 are so far expected to be 50% higher than in 2024. Due to avian flu, eggs are one of, if not the most volatile foods that the USDA is tracking.

And as we progress through the spring, we have to look ahead to the fall and bird migrations. We know that the flu has found a home in dairy cows, as well.

And part of the price stability at wholesale has been because of imports. Which will mean little if the flu swing s back as it has been since 2022

Last year $2.86. So while they're coming down they got a long way to go

Now, for the purposes of this thread we don't need ten years of data, do we? We only need to compare the price of a dozen eggs 1) when Joe Biden left office on January 20th and 2) today.

Ready? Here goes:

January 20, 2025 - $6.55
May 13, 2025 - $3.43

Oh dear! According to the smart folks at Trading Economics, average US egg prices have declined by $3.12 a dozen since trumpy was sworn in. That translates into a drop of nearly 48%!

Wow! Did yinz hear that? Lemme repeat:

Donny and his Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins have lowered the price of a dozen eggs by nearly half since January 20th!

Can you say "thank you, Donny"? Can you say "thank you, Brooke"?

They've done a bang-up job of reversing the sting of Joe Biden's sky-high egg prices on the average American's food budget.

You're way behind the 8-ball, Gristle. Wholesale prices peaked over 2 months ago. Price declines have been flowing through bigly to retail shelf prices ever since. Follow the bread crumbs.

Bottom line - Egg prices have been nearly halved since January 20th.

So what's left of your argument? Wholesale egg prices have yet to flow through fully to retail egg prices lol? How long do you think you can keep this thread going before that's no longer true?

Its encouraging that we're thus far getting through spring with lower avian flu outbreaks, but we seem woefully unprepared for the fall.

Will be interesting to see the updated USDA production estimates next month. Recall they trimmed the most recent ones.

Correct, but prices remain high and it's part of the standard basket. This does a good job of looking at the way eggs have increased as compared to other grocery staples since 2020.

And let's remember, the most recent avian flu issues began in 2022. We saw the biggest issues last year that led us here because of a massive upswing in how the flu affected flocks of commercial layers.

More important question. Is a president to blame for Egg economics, and is one to be given the kudos for them, since they really have about ZERO to do with the pricing of them. Open markets, and disease have certainly 90% more to do with that.

next thing you know they will be getting accolades for sunrise and sunset too. Yinz get the point. I think if your gonna politic on lowering them however, you'd better have a plan that you can present and document, vs. just the normal ebb and flow of pricing due to extraneous factors that have nothing to do with political party.
