Probably the most impactful regulatory change impacting the AMP scene was the increase in scope and funding of the TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Registration), which now regularly makes joint inspections with local LE resulting in much more frequent closures than what we saw not too many years ago.
Perhaps not as impactful on AMPs, but very much a factor in the overall decline in the quality of hobby life was Texas’ decision a few years ago to make Solicitation a felony in those state. We were the first state to do so, and may still be the only one. That seemed to make LE much more active in setting up stings using online ads and arresting gents who are caught with their hand (or other appendage) in the cookie jar.

this. I totally agree. I remember the glory days of Royal lane, that strip mall looked like a cosmopolitan version of Miari (one of the old red light districts in Seoul for those not in the know) jam packed into a tiny American strip mall. 180 for everything was the going rate and they were all 19-22 years old with only a couple nearing 30. The neon open signs and store logos were all so bright. A true mongler paradise. They weren’t hiding nothing and that’s what attracted so much attention. They’d line up like 7-8 beauties all in a row and take your pic. Mongler heaven.
As an interesting aside, way back in 1999 I was back here on leave and I went to one. Lady was about 30 years old. Usual story. She said she lived in some apartments in mesquite but came here to work everyday. Went back to see here a couple times. Then never saw her again. Fast forward to 2023, I go into 21 therapy over near harry hines one day just to check it out. Mama San is like 60 leads me in the room. Never been here before but was like wtf check it out. I had been up all night playing cards so I’m just laying there waiting tired af. She brings some Korean girl like 40 years old in and I’m like no sorry not interested. On a whim I ask if they have any other girls and Mamasan says “yes“ she then proceeds to bring some looks like 60 year old brown hair dyed hag and I take one look at her and my jaw drops to the floor. It’s the same lady from 1999 still here working an amp. I never forgot her face and eyes exactly the same. I immediately say holy shit I know you! You were on royal lane 20 years ago! She says ok baby, 180 I’m like no way then she starts cursing me in Korean and I leave. Good times.
