The leftist "ideas" that I am beginning to encounter involve their frustration with the basic structure of the Constitution . .in the main body of the text and in the Amendments in The Bill of Rights.
Another thread, current, on this forum touches on the Second Amendment. My PhD (in Education) brother and sister in law both think that education should not be left up to the states. They would prefer, as they put it, " . . .a national Ministry of Educstion",. This attitude or opinion has wider ramifications though. What they really want is for the USA to scrap the Constitution as written and switch to a Parliamentary form of government with strong central control of all aspects of society. They wholeheartedly endorse the European Union and its ability to impose a uniform curriculum on all 28 European Nations. Which is pretty much why Britain "breveted" from the EU.
My recollection is that former President Obama was irritated that the Constitution does not say what the government can do, but rather says what it cannot do. And that was the intent of the Founding Fsthers . . .to limit the power of government and empower the citizenry.
The OP asked for ideas from the left. They will never embrace the ideas of those who fought to throw off a central authority. Tose ideas are somehow foreign to the Democrats. Their ides for government are all at root based on the ideas of Engles, Marx and the globalist-socialists of Europe.

But if a candidate can't win the majority of the vote, it is hardly a mandate. In many states and countries, such a result would result in a runoff election.

Trump did not win the majority of the vote but I agree his win was decisive, no matter how you look at it. But if a candidate can't win the majority of the vote, it is hardly a mandate. In many states and countries, such a result would result in a runoff election.

That is how it works in most Parliamentary forms of Government.
We do not have that type of Government.
The old joke is The USA as a Constitutional Republic has the worst government on the Planet…….except all of the rest.

Exactly! That difference has totally frustrated my uber-liberal, PhD in-laws.
would note here that Canada is now swearing in a new prime minister who never got votes from anyone except from his home district.
What about "the popular vote" issue raised by progressive liberals every election here in the USA?
Imagine if the House of Reprsenttives could vote in a president who only faced the voters in, say, Idaho, Vermont or Iowa.

Speaking of votes...didn't the democrats run an unelected for president?
Speaking of the constitution, what about those 50 laboratories of democracy? The Department of Education was doing away with that.

I'm willing to bet today, if the election was reheld Trump would get slammed. He won on lies and false promises. Many 1000s out there are regretting their vote. I say fuck you to whoever regrets their vote. Vote for a criminal, rapist, fraudster, and election denier, what the fuck do you think you are gonna get?

WEll, If the national debt can be brought down, and if the spending deficit can be seduced to about nothing, then the revenue, by whatever means, to the national treasury will be able to cover those social programs and the nation will not drown in paying the intrest on all those trillions of dollars owed in bonds.
We can argue about how to get there, but I would think we all would support the goals.
Whatever was going on during the last administration just didn't seem to have the best interests of the Nation or the American People as a st of goals.
Before being banned for six months for unintentional topic hijacking, I reputedly asked on this forum, just what benefit to the Nation and American society was derived from the policy of unrestricted immigration. No one ever actually answered that question.

Members wishing to have a discussion on "just what benefit to the Nation and American society was derived from the policy of unrestricted immigration." should do so in the appropriate Thread, rather then interjecting it in every thread possible.
