If you absolutely must work out indoors, this is a good routine that is simple, avoids time wasting isolation exercises (curls etc) and focuses on compound lifts.

Everyone is different. When I buy home gym stuff, I go balls to the walls for a month, then can’t do it long term.
I need a gym. Lots of eye candy for a little motivation. If I get in the door, I’m into it.

I use the dreadmill at the gym. I gave up on trying to run like I used to, but I am still a heavy weight lifter. One key that I have found is slower cardio will burn more fat, I use the incline feature on the treadmill set for 3% incline, 30 minutes, 3mph. at the end of that I am drenched with sweat, but I am not out of breath. I am able to keep a conversation up without trouble the whole way through. Incline walking is like zero impact on my joints. If you are too tired or out of breath to speak, then you are hitting it too hard and will not likely continue.

Cardio (aerobics) like walking on a treadmill helps very little to not at all for weight loss, and is many times counterproductive. It doesn’t keep up your metabolism for hours or even days like strength training. Once you step off the machine it’s benefits disappear, unlike when you actually damage muscle tissue and your body stays in high gear repairing it. Straight heavy lifting or a lifting/aerobic hybrid like weighted running is the way to go for weight loss. .

I disagree J. Core exorcises are excellent. Low weight/high reps are great for building lean muscle. You should do those the older you get with some type of aerobics. This will keep you lean and metabolism high. Heavy weights are good for bulk and strength. Who needs that as you get older? I’ve done both. Heavy weights when younger and playing football, light weight/high rep supersets when older. Plus aerobics. But I guess its what your goals are.

30 minutes of Richard Simmon’s ‘Party the Pounds Off’ beats them all.

LOLOLOL. I rode from the airport to Century 3 Mall with him, in 84 I think it was. Me and another guy were setting up all the AV stuff for the show he was doing there. It was us two, him, his handler and the mall manager. They were late so they took us along to get the details of how he wanted the stage set up, mics and such. Still have the “Fork Off” sweatshirt he gave us.

I’m talking about straight up cardio, like running on a treadmill. It’s not bad to do it, but essentially a waste of time. Resistance training in general, regardless of the actual weights used, is far better.

The struggle with resistance stuff is diet after. Makes you hungry

All this advice is all fine and good. But the key to success is finding a workout and diet scheme that works for YOU. And it needs to be something you can live with over a long period of time. Don't expect miraculous results and be prepared for a very long term commitment. It's basically a lifestyle change.
