I've been calling bullshit on price exploitation by SW since the Spring / Summer of 2020. The people being hurt the most by the rising cost of goods and services are those in the low to middle class, who could barely afford a decent standard of living before inflation got out of control.


People in upper tax brackets by definition have high income, and usually substantial assets as well. And that tends to be efficient SW, who generally don't pay taxes. If you are a SW but not an efficient one, that's your problem due to either bad business practices or some physical feature such as being exceedingly overweight. Efficient SW are making so much money that the effects of inflation are negligible to them. The price increases are a result of opportunistic predatory behavior. Whether or not that is "ethical" is subject to the opinion of who you are asking. But even if you do find it to be moral, it still speaks to the character of the business operator - because there's a significant amount of people out there not engaging in this practice. When a hurricane is closing in on Florida and you see the price of plywood triple, do you call that "strategic profit making", or do you call it Price Gouging? Get real... Most business owners, but especially SW, could care less about their competition or their customers; they tend to be after the green like everyone else. High income SW are not having to make major adjustments to their lifestyles.

The price of rent has gone up. The price of electricity has gone up(nearly double). The price of renters insurance, car insurance has gone up. The price of food has gone up. Hobby supplies like wipes, condoms, lube have gone up.
If you are in a fixed mortgage, consider yourself extremely lucky.

So yes, rates are going to reflect the cost of business.
And yes, I am stating inflation as the cause.

Your point is a very valid one. I think they have gone up more than is warranted based on inflation but each can charge whatever she wants and she will lose business if her service isn’t worth it in the judgement of the guys that see her.
