Any providers who used Bitcoin for some of the old websites, see if you can still access your wallets.

Was talking with a provider and I randomly talked about Bitcoin she remembered having to use it for backpage. I asked if she still had her wallet info. Managed to get access and she doesn’t need to work anymore.

			*bashes head against the wall*

About 10 years ago I was doing some shady stuff with some shady friends and we operated using bitcoin. My buddy who passed away left thousands of bitcoins... I think about that a lot... We have no way to access it. Easily at least 50,000 bitcoins there.

Bitcoin was the original cryptocurrency back in 2008 and was used as a way of exchanging money virtually and without being able to trace it. It was popular with sites like the silk road, crime lab etc etc. Back then they were literally pennies a coin. Now the coins are going for over 6 grand each. If you had an account back then, and forgot about it until recently... You're in luck.

Over 43 grand currently. Your friend's 50,000 bitcoins would be worth over 2 billion

*continues to bash head into computer*

I figured once he died, his SSN and info was probably stolen and sold pretty shortly after... Still.

In anyone's honest opinion, is it too late to get into Bitcoin? Is it still beneficial to get into now? I keep on not getting into it because I feel like its going to tank at some point, but it just keeps on going up... and up...

It's a currency. If none of us had ever spent any, it wouldn't have demonstrated its usefulness and it wouldn't have the value it does today.

I suspect it will reach an even higher value vs USD at some point but I couldn't guess when. To me, percentage of merchants who accept it is a more interesting number than price in USD. In my dream world people and businesses send bitcoin between them without converting to USD and keep the government out of it as much as possible.

Dash (dash.io) is in my opinion better suited to payment than bitcoin. The public hasn't caught on yet so it hasn't skyrocketed like bitcoin, so one could look into buying into it.

To conclude my long-windedness, if you don't want to deal with a known exchange like Coinbase, then look into a decentralized exchange (see bisq.io).

I'm curious, was this in Rochester? I once bought a beer at Nathaniel's with bitcoin, but I never found any other place here which took it.
