My dad was in the Aleutinn Islands when the nukes were dropped on Japan. He recalls several minutes of radio silence and then high ranking officers only radio contacts. Everyone back then couldn't accept that one airplane and one bomb could take out an entire city.

Unusual story. I still have my tonsils, or I was born without them. Not sure.

One can go a long time without eating, but it's a pretty arduous experience. Also, you can die during the refeeding phase. I'm not sure how long one can survive without eating, but I think it's months. That's assuming one is fully nourished before the fast.

What probably happens is that cellular division is effectively halted, and your cells become quiescent, and this should temporarily stop the process of aging.
