One of the often overlooked aspects of film noir - after the visual and stark lighting effects and the bleak subject matter - is the underlying existentialist philosophical point of view. Think Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Camus and even Kafka and you will have a good idea. In any event, an experience that will stay with you long after the encounter is over. Not for the meek.
