cars.com and just select used cars and pick one at your price point.

I'd recommend a Toyota just because my dad bought me a $1,000 one when I was 16 years old and it lasted me all the way through undergrad before it really started breaking down on me. It was a piece of shit but it was reliable for the most part and got me from point A to point B even with all of the miles I put on that bucket.

I agree the used car market is really hard right now you won't find much for $3,000. I bought my last two used cars off of Facebook. It was crazy with the last car I bought I paid way too much in this covid driven car market.

Something to remember is if you buy cheap now, repairs will break you after if not discovered before buying.......where's that old Toyota at now? I'm a fan of 70s and 80s Japanese cars. I bring them back to life

I traded it in a long time ago once I started making money. I called it my Coors light because it looked like their beer can. My spoiled ass friends thought it was funny and loved driving it like it was a go cart. I guess since they had nice vehicles that they thought it was fun driving my shitty Toyota Tercel because they enjoyed slumming every once in a while.

The cool thing is that they would let me drive their cars on dates because I just didn't want to pick the chicks up in my little beer can. The girls would compliment the cars and I was like, if you only knew what I actually drive you wouldn't even want to get in it what was all I thought... one chick thought I had 4 cars because I was just borrowing different cars from friends. She thought I was rich and I was broke as fuck and driving my own car with a donut on it because I couldn't afford matching tires.

Try some auctions. I have bought cars reliably from auctions for years now. There are some auctions that don't require a dealer's license in order to attend and purchase from them.



Otherwise, like others have said try Craigslist/other online options(cars.com autotempest, ebay) as it's hard to get a 3k car from a dealership. I know a lot of small time car dealers, and most are slimy haha. Look for private sellers. Also Japanese has a premium over American, especially SUVs.Keep that in mind when buying a car, as older imports can cost as much as much newer Domestics.

Whatever car you buy, make sure a competent mechanic looks it over first.

Try CarGurus.com. You can put in maximum price and it will show you what is available. If you go up to $4000, you will have better selection. You can get the price down fron that listed in most cases. I have had good results...actually driving a truck fully decked out and best price anywhere. Not an ad for them, but the best source I found.
