Sounds like Nirvana. I hear they have regular social gatherings downtown. Lots of errrr uhmmmm, large scale discussion groups. The papers say they do a lot of spirited group debates between the subjects and the government entities. One way flights there are dirt cheap too. Take a few of your friends from here with you. Send us a post card. Just be careful what you say on it, because they may not let it through.

Just quoting what the lady said, sorry if I hit a nerve. The majority of my friends are overweight. Hong Kong is usually number 1 or 2 on the Heritage Foundation’s index of economic freedom. And anti-PRC sentiment is stronger there than here.

The obesity and health in general is an entirely valid discussion. No doubt, we suck at that here. The data clearly backs this up with regards to Covid19. As you may know, societal norms there are somewhat different than here. EX: When they get more repressed there, they think of being here or wishing we would get involved there. Of course, there is the potential irony being that if they do get here, there is a chance they could eventually become fat and lazy Americans and die from COVID19 because of underlying conditions. Maybe it takes a generation or two. No idea what the stats are on that these days.

IMHO; far too many around these boards are quick to equate lower death rates from COVID19 in countries that they would not want to live in because of the lack of freedoms, simply as a cudgel to lambaste Trump. Typical camel's nose under the tent conditioning to become more authoritarian or Socialist or less freedom. Contact Tracing (which is the Devil) is a great example. Ye olde, giving up Liberty for perceived security bit. There is no doubt that HKers are pushing back against the strong arm of the CCP, but they have a long row to hoe there, and while I support them, they've got long odds against them.

The whole bit about commas is just a ruse. I don't give half of a rat's pah-toot about them. It's just a ruse to see whether they focus on content or delivery vehicle and how far they stray down which path. I ain'ts no English major.

I've been there, I've worked there, and I wouldn't mind living there. That applies to Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand anyway. Don't know about South Korea, I actually haven't been there.

Are they calling for Daddy Gubmint to vanquish all the daemons in exchange for the illusion of safety locally? i.e. Sheeps or Patriots?

The Governor is instituting phase one of the Trump plan in all but Miami-Dade county, Broward county ( Ft. Lauderdale ) and Palm Beach county meaning restaurants and such will not open for dining in, yet. That will happen on the 15th baring any new surge.

But the public boat ramps are now open and good luck launching your boat without a long wait in line. The one thing boaters can not do is anchor closer than 50 feet of another boat and one of Miami's favorite gathering spots for boaters is a place called Elliot Key, a small island surround by a massive sandbar where hundreds of boaters tie their boats together and party like there is no tomorrow out on the sandbar. That probably won't happen till phase 3 which will be June 1st.

Miami is still considered a hot spot having more cases and deaths than any other county in Florida. You must wear a mask to enter any grocery store in Miami. No telling how long that will last.

Florida early on was projected to be 3rd on the list of most cases and deaths behind New York and New Jersey mostly because of our elderly population but we came in ( last time I looked ) about 10th on the list so our Republican Governor is getting better marks than he might have gotten if we had lived up to that projection but his close relationship to Trump brings him a lot of bad press from our Liberal leaning media and the fact that the guy he beat in the Governors race was recently found in a hotel room filled with Meth probably doesn't hurt.

Andrew Gillum, who in 2018 came within 34,000 votes of becoming Florida’s governor, was discovered by police at a South Beach hotel early Friday morning in a room with bags of possible crystal meth and in the company of a man who appeared to have overdosed on drugs, according to a Miami Beach police report.
Police say they were called to the Mondrian South Beach early Friday morning and found paramedics treating Travis Dyson, a 30-year-old Miami man, for an apparent heart attack. They say two other men were in the room: Aldo Mejias and Gillum.

Default Thank you for the update

Thanks for the insights. I have fam on West coast of FL and up North. Most of what you mentioned seems consistent there. Gatherings above a couple are still blocked and no interiors of restaurants open yet.

I was aware of Andy out partying after a wedding with a male hooker and drugs. Thought he said it was just some bad Mexican dinner. Curious wording from the local Police: “...Though there were narcotics in plain view, no one was in physical possession of those narcotics...” “...Officers are not going to make an arrest every time they go into a house and drugs are found. Every situation is different,...” It works for us average schmoes too. Right?

Prostitution is legal. They won't convict you of a crime if you see a provider. They don't take half your income in taxes. You have similar freedoms to the USA in New Zealand and Hong Kong, although yes, there is the very remote possibility the PRC could kidnap you from Hong Kong and ship you to a Chinese jail. Singapore is not as free but makes up for it by otherwise having one of the best run governments in the world.

Default Familly fun in HK

Providing should be legal overall - IMHO. Not quite sure how you make that to be "family friendly", optics-wise though. But that's just my opinion.

Speaking of family fun in HK; I see where shopping malls in HK are breaking out in random song-fests, like Sha Tin's New Town Plaza's Sing-With-You choir. Must be pretty rousing too. Reports are it brings tears to their eyes. Plus, they sure know how to through a good party there. Big celebrations there for International Workers’ Day. Seems some 3,000 Police had registered their RSVPs.
