"Executive Order" - by Tom Clancy

Just finished re-reading "Executive Order , by the late Tom Clancy. Came out in 1995 - Clancy passed away in 2013.

Plot revolves around an Iran theocratic dictator who attacks America with Ebola virus, resulting in a shutdown of the country.

Amazing - reading it today - how prescient Clancy was in his description and terminology.

almost eerie he could predict that 25 years before it happened - under slightly different circumstances.

Still - well worth a read . But not for any "pansy DPST pukes"!!!
Enjoy!

There have been more than a few people since viruses were first thought to exist around 1915 but couldn't be seen until the 30's when the electron microscope was invented, who have hypothesized that they would be humanities undoing.
https://www.ck12.org/c/biology/virus...f-Viruses-BIO/
I watched a very interesting 2 part series by Ken Burns recently called "The Gene".
 https://www.pbs.org/show/gene/
Really fascinating information but one of the things I found most interesting is how scientist can use viruses that have the ability to attack our genes and do harmful things can also be used to deliver "something good" to a defective gene. Did you know that bacteria can be attacked by a virus and has the ability to not only fight it and destroy it but is capable of saving a little bit of that virus and use it against the next virus that attacks it? When some scientist first wondered how this happens and discovered how the heck they did this, the science of CRISPR was invented.
 https://www.vox.com/2018/7/23/175948...9-gene-editing
See, bacteria are under constant assault from viruses, so they produce enzymes to fight off viral infections. Whenever a bacterium’s enzymes manage to kill off an invading virus, other little enzymes will come along, scoop up the remains of the virus’s genetic code and cut it into tiny bits. The enzymes then store those fragments in CRISPR spaces in the bacterium’s own genome.

Now comes the clever part: CRISPR spaces act as a rogue’s gallery for viruses, and bacteria use the genetic information stored in these spaces to fend off future attacks. When a new viral infection occurs, the bacteria produce special attack enzymes, known as Cas9, that carry around those stored bits of viral genetic code like a mug shot. When these Cas9 enzymes come across a virus, they see if the virus’s RNA matches what’s in the mug shot. If there’s a match, the Cas9 enzyme starts chopping up the virus’s DNA to neutralize the threat.

So humans are in a race to win a war against viruses before one comes along that we can not defeat.

Perhaps a "Giant" of a writer!

If only liberalism was viral caused - perhaps we could develop a vaccine!

In the case of AOC and the Squad - here is a quote from Jack Nicholson :
May I ask you something? You're all church-going folk. I really want to ask you something. Do you think God knew what He was doing when He created woman? Huh? No shit! I really want to know. Or do you think it was just another one of his minor mistakes like tidal waves, earthquakes, floods! Do you think women are like that? [he pukes again] What's the matter? You don't think God makes mistakes? Of course He does. We all make mistakes! Of course, when we make mistakes, they call it evil! When God makes mistakes, they call it nature. [laughs]
So whaddya think? Women. A mistake?! Or did He DO IT TO US ON PURPOSE!? Because I really want to know! Because if it's a mistake, maybe we can do somethin' about it! Find a cure! Invent a vaccine! Build up our immune systems! (More chuckling) Get a little exercise! You know, twenty push-ups a day, and you never have to be afflicted with women EVER AGAIN!

Can't even get the name of the book right in his book report.

The name of the book is "Executive Orders".

The book picks up at the end of "Debt of Honor" (published Aug 1994)as a continuation of the storyline from that book. Japan attempts to knock the US of the top of the world order with a war that included the Japanese getting nukes, they try to destroy the US economy using software (that runs the stock exchange) and setting up trends involving currency and T-bills among other things. The US is already in major turmoil, before the ebola virus attack, as a result of what occurs at the end of "Debt of Honor".

Spoiler Alert-If you read "Executive Orders" before "Debt of Honor" you will fuck up the ending of "Debt of Honor".

Both books are stand-alone, but a lot of references in "Executive Orders" are much clearer if you read "Debt of Honor" first as is the world situation. Several storylines/characters continue from the first book (other than Jack and the gang).

If you consider foreign agents coming into the US using time-delay release systems at major trade show conventions at many of the largest venues in the US to be a slight difference from what happened now.

humans are multi-cellular organisms - evolved symbiotic on many types of bacteria - and with many different identified virus genomes in our genome.

natural selection - a virus mutates - and successfully infects many people - some of which die. The survivors have some resistance - which is amplified in natural selection and the virus goes away - until it next mutates into something more pathogenic - which reproduces itself in quantity - and the dance of Life goes On and On!

Until one out smarts us which of course I hope never happens.

What if the end game of natural selection has the virus as the ultimate winner?

Dinosaurs existed as the Alpha animal on the planet until cosmic disruption gave the lowly mammal a foot in the door and the dinosaur was no more.

Dinosaurs existed as the Alpha animal on the planet until cosmic disruption gave the lowly mammal a foot in the door and the dinosaur was no more.

actually, much of the dinosaur population evolved (the 4 legged ones died off), we know them today as birds/avians.

How many people will want to be injected with a vaccine developed in a Chinese lab if they are the first to have it.? Will the country that develops the vaccine first share it or keep it until everyone in their country is vaccinated first ?

Can't even get the name of the book right in his book report.

The name of the book is "Executive Orders".

You know things are getting bad for the libs/Trump haters when they resort to spelling errors as their responding argument.

Agreed
 Thank U, Blue Meanie!!!!
Best be careful - reading Clancy books - or even referring to One accurately - might cancel your membership in the "woke" party!!!!
