It amazed me how a Sherrif could be held in contempt for enforcing the Law.

AD says that no one knows if the president can pardon himself which, according to our system, means yes he can. Why? Because to prove something can be done, it has to be done and then it has to be challenged. So a president can pardon themselves and it is up to the judiciary to prove otherwise with legal challenges and that could take years. The president in question will likely have left office in any case but if he (or she) is still in office everything will come under the heading of executive privilege. Also, the Constitution does say that a Senator or House member cannot be arrested or detained in the performance of their duties (ask any Kennedy about this). It can be reasonably argued that such a right extends to the chief executive and since that job is 24/7...
