Guys that do this on a more regular basis than you or I will probably have a different routine, but I will generally make the initial contacts a few days ahead by email/PM, but then morning-of, will use text to confirm, then phone/text at the door (if needed). Upon leaving, I will try to send a quick thank-you text, or if it's an hour or so past the time we visited, I'll send a PM/email to thank.
So, yeah, just before the meeting is set for, I want the most direct means of communication. At that point, my time is just as valuable (if not more) as theirs....
