"Save that money for a rainy day" never had so much truth for me as it does right now.

Yes....you think I make a salary? Lols. As said, this is when being "self-employed" and the amount of time you actually work being directly tied to how much money you make, can bite you in the ass.

Most self-employed put in a lot of hours so they always have something for the off days if they learn how to save.

Agreed.....it's just frustrating when you have to turn down business, especially when getting so many requests.

Victoria, you don't need to explain your situation to anyone. The whole situation sucks. Like with Fancy, I wish you the best.

Thanks.

I am lucky in that it is nowhere near as bad as it sounds for poor Fancy....the area is just flooded out so I am unable to get out of here to go work until the waters abate. Irritating, as said. Grrrr, Houston.

Fancy has insurance for the lost items,,,She probably has an undamaged car and can easily get a room at a local motel/hotel or do PI until she gets a new apartment for her business,,,This is more a distraction than a disaster. Some people lost their lives because of this storm.

Fancy cannot go to a PI as Fancy sells a very particular type of service to a small target audience, the "Sassy Irish Lassie Experience." Most of my clients visited me for companionship with carnal activities part of, but not the whole, package. My regulars know how much work I put into making the environment truly unique.

This is more than just a distraction, but yes, I'm thankful it wasn't my life, my beloved pets, or my house. (THIS time. See my previous comment on the preceding page.)

The Fancy Palace of Pleasure is no more
. As I feared, my apartment sustained considerable damage, and I have to take my surviving things and move. I wasn't given a choice by the management, who said it will take at least 2 weeks to do repairs and they need the unit vacated asap. (The one next door was also heavily hit, but it was unoccupied.) Too soon to determine yet what all is and isn't salvageable. Some of my furniture is a loss, and while I have insurance, they were antiques, not really replaceable. Hoping my heavy oak nightstands will be okay, that the wood won't split. They are beautifully carved, as is my stand-alone jewelry/accessory dresser. Been drying, packing, and carting what I can to storage all day, and the maintenance people are working on tearing out the carpet and sheetrock now. My bigger items are just piled in the middle of the room with blowers and dehumidifiers aimed at them. The mattress and box springs are in the dumpster. Cleaning my extensive wardrobe of costumes, necessary for my annual Wicked Wench Tours of the various Renaissance fairs in Texas, will be a lengthy process, and quite costly for the garb requiring special care. The dragons were taken in by a lovely gentleman friend and are hanging by their horns in his home utility room. Strange laundry line, that.

There is no unit available for me at the same complex, and so many other people have been displaced and are now looking that I imagine obtaining a another apartment at an equitable price may be quite a challenge, especially with some of the same architectural elements. I can kiss my private courtyard garden goodbye. I LOVED that, and have never seen its like at another property. Good God, moving my huge plants and that medieval iron bed (after I find someone who knows how to dismantle it) are going to be massive chores.

I have no idea yet what direction I will take. I'm exhausted and demoralized, and still in a wee bit of shock. I was there 5 years, a substantial period of time. Will take a while to get things sorted out, so I will be unavailable for at least a week, perhaps more. I'll probably start a separate thread tomorrow informing those who care, but now I need rest. So much to do in the days ahead. Quite intimidating.

Thanks for the well wishes some of your were kind enough to express.

Guess I had better take myself off the private incall list in ISO, huh?

Oh Fancy, I am so very, very sorry to hear this. I can only imagine what you must be feeling right now.

I know we have never met in person, ever, but if you need ANY kind of help - packing, moving, transporting, storing stuff even (I can take it to my place), please do let me know and I would be happy to lend a hand.

Either way, here's wishing things will resolve as quickly and smoothly as is possible in a situation such as this. *big hugs*
