You're right, the patronship of the paper or the news station is much larger than here...however, the crossover numbers of patrons of the paper or news station and this site is a much smaller number. This board has a responsibility to not exacerbate the dissemination of members personal information. If you can't understand the need for that, you've got much bigger issues than we can deal with here.

From what I saw, OSD never posted the link / article. In fact, he warned against it and even warned about what would happen if anyone did. He's smart enough and knows how many dumb asses are on here and figured someone would still be stupid enough to post the damn thing anyway. And they did. You're right, he never posted the link. However, he posted the exact information that anyone, even someone not from here, would need to search for to find the article. Y'all are getting hung up on "posting a link." Even your mods were hung up on that until they were correceted. As has been demonstrated, the guideline about outing doesn't mention "posting a link", it mentions "any attempt to connect a person's real world info to their username." He certainly did that.

His intelligence is now in doubt...he obviously wasn't as smart as some of you think, now is he? Your quote is the most damning part actually. When he first saw the article, he knew it contained personal info about board members. He then decided to direct people to that personal info in the hopes that someone would out that info here. His malicious intent, and deliberate actions make the outing he did all the more heinous.

That's correct. This board doesn't have any guidelines concerning the personal information of non-members. Post the alerts all you want...better make sure that they're not members first. If you can't do that, you may face the consequences of outing.

He could have done all he could do to keep that link from being posted by not posting his thread at all. His intention was to mention it, so they'd get outed, and people would get banned. As he said, his "plan backfired."
