Presto, i present the VPN. VPN means Virtual Private Network. Its a way to hide what your doing on your phone from the network prying eyes, like bosses, McDonalds/Hotel Free Internet, at&t, whatever/wherever. Think tunnel; you get there and no-one sees you...(go ahead and bitch about my punctuation, i dare u)
VPN's essentially create a digital freeway for your data, with no on or off ramp access between you and your destination(eccie!). your phone provider or wifi provides the land, the vpn provides the pavement and lanes! and no one gets to share it!
Its so fucking simple it pisses me off that people don't do it, but thats why I'm here, to help my fellow horndogs and dog-ettes keep some semblance of privacy.
Ok, now to the easy part. Get online, phone or computer, and go to
www.privateinternetaccess.com. Of all the vpn's, this one is my favorite(i use 3 for different things), and i gladly pay them $40/year or so. No, i don't work for them, i fix airplanes, anyone who has met me knows I'm an airplane nut, and I'm just a software geek on the side. Sign up, consider it cost of doing business. for that price you can have up to 5 devices hiding from the web police.
This vpn is really good for us here, however it is not the best proxy, stick with other suppliers for that.
Again, sign up. get your username and password. Download the program to your Mac/PC (if your using Linux, your too smart for this guide)then download the app to your phone and.bla bla bla, a beautiful brunette just came all over the place, broke my train of though, Damn Whitney!...
So you got the app on the App Store or google play. put in your name and password and hit connect. Your done. you will see a Key up top on your phone, or a lock with a checkmark on your Mac/PC. Thats it, you are hidden from all but the most dedicated prying eyes (think 3 letter govt acronyms).
Now, I use the kill switch feature, its a little check box in settings, just incase i forget to check my connection status, you should too. also go to settings and set the following: Data Encryption to AES256, Data Authentication to SHA256, and Handshaking to RSA-4096. hit save. hit connect.
Thats about it for now. if you see the lock with a checkmark on the Mac, the green robot on PC, or the Key on a phone, you are connected. You are super protected from the dot gov figuring out your a mongerer/provider now. of course, as soon as you read this, someone will correct me. The key is this company keeps no records of traffic, None. very important. And, to make it better, they have live 24/7 support via text/IM.
